I found, that when you hold keyring with keys in inventory, and the other is pickpocketed from NPC it overwrittes the one you had, and you loose the keys in previous one when it's name is default. Changing name helps to avoid it but I think not many are aware of it.

I have never had this happen, but maybe your base key ring is a PP key ring?
