Arelith YT Series

Post by BurntToastNCopper »

Hello Everyone!

I've been experimenting with using the Arelith server to record and edit cinematic videos. I want to produce a YT series using player (and possibly DM) submitted footage, that revolves around the day-to-day lives of the player characters (DM characters are welcome), primarily telling the story of Arelith, but through a constantly revolving "cast" (with exceptions). I don't want to bog the chat down, so the deets and what to do if you're interested in submitting footage are in the attachment. It's just a word doc. I'm not a bot...I'm not.

Honestly I'm not here to generate content for someone else's Youtube account. Also, I don't really want my RP to be seen by anyone but whoever I'm in the game with, especially if I have some long term scheme going that could easily be undone by the wrong PC knowing about it. Please keep this in mind, I don't think every player here is going to be on board with this.

Personally, I never really got the appeal of streaming, but I am increasingly finding my viewpoint a minority. And that's okay! A ton of people enjoy it and I'm glad they do.

I tend to agree with Spriggan about streaming roleplay in general. I can't say I like the idea of producing raw material for someone else's monetized content. Maybe this says something about me and roleplay, but if I become aware (proven by admission or witnessing the stream myself) that someone is streaming their play publicly, I will avoid that player or at least find an excuse to remove myself from that situation ASAP. Call it bad roleplay or OOC to do so, but I believe streaming is an out of character phenomenon that alters the environment and I don't care to participate.

That being said, I appreciate your approach in asking people for footage submissions. In my opinion, securing footage in this manner is a step in the right direction. I would just pose the following question:

Have all parties featured in the submitted footage from one consenting individual also indicated their consent to being broadcast and monetized?

I've sent the OP a PM with a question about it not long after they posted this thread, but I haven't heard back from them at all regarding it. I wouldn't mind contributing to such an effort, considering it could help promote the server, but I'd want to know more about the channel that will be hosting the videos before I do.

Xebek: Shelved.
Gwenllian Auburnridge: Rolled. Managing the family shipyard in Waterdeep.
Cheryl Garrio:
Rolled. Slain and lost, bones and all.

On Ravenloft we had a 'debate' about streaming/recording and sharing roleplaying content, which was incredibly polarising, with many individuals flat out saying they'd quit the server if their roleplay was recorded/streamed/shared without their consent on a platform like twitch/Youtube.

I personally, couldn't care less, and quite enjoy the idea of the stories I'm telling reaching a wider audience, but I wanted to leave this here to highlight how deeply this matters to some individuals, and I can't imagine it would be any different here.

(Let alone of the channel in question was monitised, for example.)

Temporarily back to Arelith and currently 'Hanna'.
