Dracoliches and Deities

Post by Waldo52 »

I need a Forgotten Realms nerd to help me.

What deity or deities would be associated with dracoliches? I'm slowly putting together a concept for a character that's looking for a dracolich summoner to serve and obey. I want him to be dedicated to a deity that makes sense given his obsession with necromancers and the dracolich in particular.

Sounds very much like the Cult of the Dragon. They have no main patron Deity, and have an assortement of evil Deity worshippers in their ranks.

Velsharoon is always a solid choice for anything Undeath related.

Definitely research the Cult of the Dragon, and associated gods and entities. Velsharoon is also always a good bet.

Thank you for the replies. I had never heard of this "Cult of the Dragon" until now but found an article on the Forgotten realms wiki.

Regarding religion I read the following:

"While some dragons were worshiped as deities by their devout Cult servants, which the dragons certainly enjoyed these dragons received no divine powers and could grant no spells to their followers.[1][4] Nevertheless, dracoliches were considered as almost divine and were titled 'Sacred Ones' within the faith.

Otherwise, the Cult of the Dragon had no official patron deity. The few clerics in the Cult venerated Bane, Shar, Talona, Talos, and Velsharoon, and to a lesser extent Cyric, Gargauth, Malar, and Tiamat. The necromancer mages mostly took Velsharoon as their patron, to avoid paying even lip service to Mystra, because of her church's opposition to the Cult of the Dragon."

It sounds like I can be a member of this cult and easily get away with serving Velsharoon or Cyric, or just worship the abyssal powers in pantheon.

Thank you for the guidance. The character is slowly coming together with your help.

Null or Falazure.
Depending the source of your lore they are different deities or Falazure is an aspect of Null; personally I prefer the former interpretation as they have a different vibe.
Falazure is more on point with what you are seeking, he's supposed to be the original dracolich, though Cult of the Dragon (the book) makes direct reference to Null.

Don't click weird links, kiddos.
