Brew Potion/Herbalism - rework

Post by chocolatelover »

As a bard herbalist, the recent nerf to Brew Potion feat hit my pc really hard.

The Casting part of it was never really that special for my bard, as most bard levels 1, 2, 3, spells are also sold by pcs for far less than I can sell them and the cost to brew them + cost of the magic potion bottle, just wasn't worth it.

1. found this suggestion in another thread:

"Currently we have Subscribe Scroll, Brew Potion and Craft Wand feats. All these feats are now more of a money making tool for casters and are totally useless to mundanes.
How about we give a small CL boost to it, for example, if one picked subscribe scroll, when he reads scrolls he gets a small boost to it's CL, same as brew potion and craft wand. As a result this can be more of a worthy feat for mundanes."

2. Or, what about making the extra potions from having Brew Potion a little more variable? Maybe not 50% more every time, but a chance of getting that much more. So based on Crafting level

3. Fix the herblalist potions! Many of these potions require a lot of supplies for very little return, such as potions that require another potion (MOJO!). Seriously, TWO freedom potion from mojo, aventurine dust, phenalope, and a glass bottle and for 22 points? It takes forever to brew a batch of 100 potions.

The issue is a feat giving too much for a system that ordinarily has little linkage.
This creates an inequality in opportunity that ends up feeling mandatory.

With that being said,
We will not be doing option 1 as that is a different issue that ends up making the feats meta-relevant and thus even more in demand than before. Some feats aren't meant to be taken by everyone, for example, Weapon specialisation has no benefits to a mage, should that also give them damage to spells? It is an unnecessary convolution.

We will not be doing option 2 as that is a return to the issue with extra complexity and chance.

Option 3 is the most likely to be done as it is a re-evaluation of the crafting recipes, some of which were made or altered while this feat existed as a craft benefit.
However the exact nature of these changes will need discussion if they are to happen at all, so I'm leaving this where it is for now in pending.

Tldr
1 and 2 denied.
2 pending discussion.
