Lag during large pvp battles

Post by Apothys »

Hi,

I was involved in a recent large scale battle on the surface with UD vs Surface Folk. The lag was horrendous, I could barely see what was happening and a lot of people seemed to be stuck in place or simply appear in a new location. I did have the graphics on max, so im wondering if this would have been a factor and if downgrading the graphics for the game might help with that.

It was a fun battle despite when I suddenly died from someone who i never even saw sliced me up. :)

Anyone know a way of helping with this?

Thanks for reading.

short answer: avoid mass pvp. the server can't handle the load. there really is no way to improve this.

Alas I cant refuse to join these hunt or patrols when others are willing to do it also as usually its part of some larger narrative. Ill try downgrading the graphics and report back if it seems any better.

mass pvp was laggy back when i was into it in 2008, and i bet your machine is a lot stronger than that laptop i was using back then.
I bet the problem has more to do with things out of your control than it does your graphics. that said, if you want to try turning it down, and it improves even a little... great! but I bet everyone was lagging like hell. and no amount of tweaking your GPU workload is going to change the server's ability to handle, process, and distribute every action taking place. And states. and everything else I haven't bothered trying to think about needs to be communicated between client and server between ticks.

RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

You have two choices live with it or avoid PvP on the mass scale.

Also if the server has a hundred players online and 50 of them are on one map you better off logging off and there is nothing you can do that won't be in stop motion, plus it will probably crash after the first hellball anyway.

When we were attacking cordor a couple of years ago we always went in a small group of no more than 6, keep it small and you will have a much better time with the lag, it will still become unbearable when you get swarmed by the surface settlements, so cutting the trip short after the first or second encounter is often the best idea.
Graphic settings never made any difference ive played it at min and maxed no noticeable difference when the numbers build up.

Also rp with a small unit is more fun than watching the leader/s of a large horde roleplaying.

I don't attend large war parties even if it made sense for my character because I feel like it's mostly a waste of my time.

Hey, speaking of, am I the only one who experience massive lagg when there is mist in the scene (Cloud CIty entrance, the shrouded jungles in Deep Wells, for examples) ?

I can’t even stand super large RP only session (like this weekend in Cordor) where everything was on like 3second delay.
