I really don't want to get too much into detail here, to avoid FOIG territory*, but...
this boon seems to last forever
cannot be overwritten by other boons
Funny that's what the message says, because I've been waiting for 6 weeks already.
As somebody who likes to sail, I'd like to get a seagod blessing at some point again.
Especially considering that my character gets 0 benefit from the favour of brass.
*then again, the FOIG approach is what got me completely hosed this time around.
The most sought after boons - Greater Seagod's Blessing - requires a Greater Seagod Offering which takes a lot of precious and rare items to craft: Azurite, Bluestone, 10 Pearls and 10 Kelp. Then you have to gather 4 other friends to do a ritual - if you are successful, this Greater Seagods Blessing only lasts a few weeks (2 or 3).
Favour of Brass does not get removed, even if you are successful in your Seagod Blessing Ritual. All the materials and your efforts would be wasted.
I think that this is a bit much and not worth it.

Boons have durations of 45 days as per the Sibayad update.
There was some confusion on the part of the ability to stack or replace boons.
That is not the case as of writing this, they are limited to 1 and cannot be overriden.

May I just add as a side note that rituals and all other super secretive FOIC info that gives your character actual mechanical benefits is ultra silly for a server like Arelith?
The problem here isn't so much FOIG in on itself as the fact that you're being encouraged to explore and experiment with stuff IG firsthand only to be actively punished for doing just that.
Yea...I went ahead and tried the Water of Life boon and do not quite get what it even does.
It'll then be stuck with me for 45 days with no means of overwrite which is pretty bad design.
I think, player's time should also be considered as a valuation for allowing these boon to be overwriten with the latest one if we meets the criteria.

Honestly combining the boons you have to track down and acquire through external means with the bonuses you get from performing rituals - so that you can only have one at a time, seems extremely punishing. The inability to overwrite especially, for reasons already mentioned upthread.

As some of you may have noticed, the wiki actually has a boon page.
It currently does not have the new boons, this is intentional because some people actually enjoy puzzling things out without someone going "oh it does this" the second you ask about it in game without actual means to have known that.
The wiki will be given the details once a reasonable time period has passed to give that opportunity, and admins agree to it.

I myself accidentally received the Favor of Brass that not only did ANYTHING for my character, and I didn't even know I was about to receive a Boon, but then when I found the Djinn with my whaler's cry gem, i lost the gem and gained nothing. I love a good puzzle, but these sorts of things are as silverphoenix said, are PUNSHIING. Especially to new players as once you know the secret, your next character will know exactly what to do/not do and where to go.
Getting stuck with the Boon of the Brass is unfortunate.. Given it is a very, very bad boon.
It doesn't even do what you might think it does, it's actually just straight up worse than that, it's also completely useless if you've already mastered it.
