Unarmed Smite Doesn't Break DR

Post by Darkstorn42 »

Description
This on the PGCC. When I use smite on a Liberator, the extra damage from my unarmed attacks does not get the benefits of the Tavern Brawler's Wraps attack bonus for the benefits of piercing damage reduction like a hand help weapon does.

For the purpose of the bug testing I had 13 levels of Liberator and was striking an Erinyes, for maximum smite damage. (CG to LE)

What Do You Expect to Happen
I expected to see my damage to be about 13 points higher and not see any damage reduction in the combat log. Here is a normal strike with my fists:

What is Happening
When I use divine smite my damage is about the same, because all of the extra damage is absorbed by the Erinyes' damage reduction:

Extra Information
Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, and that smite is supposed to get the AB benefits for DR piercing I performed attacks with an Elfblade.

The normal attack:

Then the smite:

You can see, the smite deals more damage and pierces the Erinyes DR.

One more test, since I thought maybe it was just dying from normal attacks before the smite went off, I tried it on a Pit Fiend who has more DR and more HP. My smite did considerably less damage, because the whole attack was reduced by the Fiends 25 DR.
