The Fate of Rats

Post by In Sorrow We Trust »

Hey.

It's time.

Two years ago, I created Vittoria Veleno with one, singular ambition: Being the most notable/disruptive/recognized/reputed thief on the server.

I think that got achieved to some degree. It went in many directions I didn't expect, and many directions that I think ended up being quite wonderful.

After all this time, all this character development, she finally reached her peak. Her pinnacle. Any time I tried to keep going, I kept running into scenarios where I could no longer justify my presence.

Thus, her story will very soon come to a close.

There were many who didn't know Vittoria... but she probably knew you. She watched, and pulled strings where people couldn't see. Small mundane things lead back to her more often than people realized. She had her fingers in almost every pie imaginable, at many points. Rats do, after all, tend to get in all the walls.

As for her fate? Well... maybe you can guess. Maybe you'll find out. Maybe you'll be left guessing. The simple fact is, though:

She's Gone.

There's a lot of people I could put on a kudos list. I'm going to roll credits as best I can, but keep in mind... it's been a long journey, with lots of pauses in-between. It's hard to remember everyone.

Feel free to read these off in Vittoria's croaky accent. These are things she'd say or write about you.

Urshak Dragonskin: thanks for giving me a chance.
Valeria Veleno: i'll miss you, sis...
Landarel Skyseeker(can't remember the exact name): you were... something special... and i threw you aside like trash. i'm sorry.
Ginny Rivorndir: great friend. best friend.
Juniper Oakley: also great friend. best friend. sorry i couldn't find your paintings...
Lefric Ruston: decent boss. bit of a hardass though.
Thomas Castemont: you ain't so bad afterall.
Minto Cloudpaw: i regret everything...
Francesca Visconti: hate you...
Maxine Majesta: my hero.
Ner'enthis Shadowclaw: my favorite kobold.
Khorin Cinderstone: ALL HAIL THE MERCHANT KING
Roffin Lairmont: you know what you did.
Imryll Valaathlar: my favorite elf. best sailor on the seas.
Lavok Xun'viir/etc/etc: you're a monster.
Faeris Xun'viir/etc/etc: hard not to like you.
Marco Azari: you know i only bullied you cause i liked you, right?
Akorae: hi koko.
Brinja: giiiiiiiiiiiirl.
Gabriel Freeman: you paid well, i'll give you that.
Johnathan Rigsby: yeah, you're all right, i guess.
Velasco Durante: bring it in, my guy.
Natasha Dryby: LEGEND.
Laberia: great conversationalist.
Atticus Stratlace: don't get turned. or killed, i guess.
Gabriel Blackwood: not bad for a goody-goody-two-shoes.
Rosette Blackwood: proud of you.
Licit: wow!
Laverne vi Maeruhal: you weren't so bad... for a fanger.
LIL DAN: LIL DANNNNNNNNNNNN!
Creak, Whisper, Bell, You, etc.: thanks for welcoming me into your flock.
Glubdub: can't believe you retired. still gonna call you admiral.
Raja, Olivia, Angelo & other Rapscallions: finest pirates i've ever sailed with. thanks for letting me join the crew.
Raktus Ironhorn: should probably lay off the halx a little bit there, buddy.. or don't. guess you're filling my pockets after all.
Victor Green: dunno why i had THIS as a type, but okay.
Claude (of various names): complicated, but, kinda worth it?
Meil: you were good. real good. wherever you went, hope you found what you were looking for.
Mithry Arringale: could never quite figure you out. good friend, though.
Naseefa Vashkyr: taking my opinions on this one to the grave with me.
Vaeryll (forgot her last name. myon's lorekeeper for a while): wish we could've done Girls Night Out together.

and to all my many, various, widespread, and sometimes overly forgiving victims: so long, and thanks for Your Stuff.

'till next time.

Vittoria was a great character - not only one that could move into the server like water and always fill a niche and remain relevant - but she was one of the best examples of characters that achieve mechanical relevance without having to obsessively engage with the PvP system.

Private property became an ephemeral concept when Vittoria was around.
I am sure there will be a lockbreaking tradition based around her, and that when locks are broken on the server people will start to wonder if Vittoria has perhaps come back. Definitely the better realized thief I have ever seen on Arelith.

All hail the Rat Queen!

Heard a lot about her and never saw her. Kudos to The Rat!

I know what you did last summer.

Vittoria was a blast, and I'll miss auto-hitting -observe whenever she shows up. Looking forward to who you next roll up!

Very sad to see the end of Vittoria. From the early days in Gloom to the more recent stuff in Sibayad, it always was a delight to RP with her. I always did hope towards the end she'd come sail with us on the Leopard, but alas, was not meant to be. Hope we can cross paths again sometime!

OMG, Vittoria was the LEGEND.

Your name came up ALL THE TIME. Players will be wondering FOREVER about all the things she did.

And Good Girl Aria was secretly envious of Everything that Vittoria could pull off.

Wow. Just wow.

And thanks for taking Aria along on one last heist. I saw those itchy fingers. Vittoria did good.

After a significant attempt on Faeris' life she was smuggled out of Andunor while a horde of surfacers tried to find her and met Vittorio in the bowels of Dis after receiving a secret key to the lower dungeons. It was so cool. Vittoria was always mysterious and like involved in nefarious and secretive plots. And the dramatic like meetings were cool.

Very neat character!

Vittoria was a fun character that always seemed to have been caught up in something interesting. Will miss her.

I have always heard of her but rarely got to meet her. You have a habit of making interesting PCs, and I have tried to follow your stories ever since the Void Cult days. I look forward to seeing what you think up next!

She was pretty neat! Shame that the sausage king did not get a chance to hang out with her more.

Veleno was cool, I enjoyed Atticus's interactions with her, and I wish there'd been more. Good luck with whatever your next concept is!

V was awesome, and I never regretted my investments in her or her schemes. Parrot Chalice and other various things well spent :)

May she find peace in her next step, whatever that is, and I hope you find just as much (or more) enjoyment from your next character.

Never spoke, and only saw each other in passing perhaps once that I was aware. Too bad I missed out by all accounts, I think Ral would have liked this ‘Rat’. ✌️
