I would like to suggest adding a new ability for wild mages that would have no effect other than triggering a random wild surge on the target or area... or a defined one if fated.
This can also be a new spell that may be really called for.
Reasoning: Sometimes, wild mages just want to surge but are forced to cast spells with irrelevant effects. This is awkward and confusing in logs; besides, having no double effect provides no advantage in terms of fighting anyway.
P.S. Spamming cantrips for other effects is just weird.
