Monkey-Grip: Animations look AWFUL.

Post by Richrd »

Hi there.

Clickbait title aside, I can't be the only one who really dislikes some of the animations when using a shield plus a two-handed weapon.

The worst offenders are the polearm type weapons. Originally I planned on having my dwarven defender go full hoplite, even more so since Arelith has that nice shield size scaling feature. But I was quickly dissuaded from doing so when I found out just how silly it looks when you currently use a shield plus a pike or a halberd.

Swinging that type of weapon around like it's a sword? Silly and immersion breaking.

Now as always I get that some strange individuals out there may like their characters swinging their pike around like they're intent on breaking it. Fine. With those particular people in mind I therefore sneak in a little suggestion:

Please just give us a toggle option to use either a weapon's two-handed animations or have it regress back to the currently used one-handed animation sets.

This sounds more like a bug than intended feature.

Can you give out more details and, if possible, post some gifs?

  • Which weapons were you using specifically that had an animation problem?
  • What is your character size?
  • What is your character race?

For you, the day Kenji overhauled your class was the most important day of your life.
But for me, it was Tuesday. :face_with_monocle: To-do list

  • Which weapons were you using specifically that had an animation problem?
All of the 2-handed weapons have that. When equipping them one-handed, with a shield in the off-hand, their moveset turns into that of a 1-handed weapon.

  • What is your character size?
    Medium.

  • What is your character race?
    Shield-Dwarf

For some of the weapons it makes sense or even looks badass. Swinging a greataxe around like it's a onehander is reaching cool levels of sillyness.

But as stated above, with a pike or a halberd it starts looking really goofy.

Can't provide GIFs as I don't have a software for that.
