NPC Guards more useful!!

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

NPC Guards more useful!!

Post by Orian_666 »

My suggestion is quite simple.
I'd like if it were possible somehow to give PC guardsmen, waymen, hawkin etc etc a command or player tool (maybe give the commanders/leaders of these factions a way to make this player tool and only people in the faction at "X" rank can use it) that when used on another player sets them as hostile to NPC guards.

I have two main reasons for this:
1) Having NPC guards get involved in situations, though few and far apart, where another player becomes aggressive really helps with the realism and immersion of the game. When a PC guard is trying to take down a PC criminal and the NPC guard is just chilling there without a care in the world while the two PCs are beating the hell outta each other is just really a bit silly.
2) It will really help the lower level PC guards to be more "threatening". I've experienced it myself and seen others experience it time and time again, but when some big bad guy comes to town and doesn't follow the laws and a lowbie PC guard tells them off the "bad guy" knows full well the puny little PC guard can't do a damn thing about it and that's just frustrating for everyone. It's also fairly metagamey. So giving lowbie PC guards the oppotunity to, say, "Hey, Elites guardsman over there." *pointing to the elite* "If this man doesn't follow my order to put his greatsword away aid me in his arrest." Ensue the outcome of the "bad guy" now knowing the NPC guards are going to be against him too.

And granted some PCs may still continue to break the law after that because that's just what that character is like, some may even feel confident about taking on an elite or two as well as the PC guard and that's fine too. But not being taken seriously as a new guard simply because someone meta games your level differences is just not cool.
