The lingering tune of the Cardmage.

Post by Iceborn »

THIS SUMMER...
I decided that it was finally time to roll Kiravias.
KIRAVIAS VILAVAN ATRAVILOK, NOT WILD MAGE! *Cue lighting bolts* (Read: All the quotes from Xerath, ever)
And his always present totally-not-actual-brother, Nefiromus.

He is, was one of the few characters that I truly developed to the core and beyond, and I will miss his chaos and magic blabbers dearly, but his time as a PC comes to an end, and he will forever roam the distant desert in solitude, humming his song and leaving a trail of the consequences of his fatidical magic; chunks of burning beef, gravestones, random rocks and too many gems.

The list of the players that made my time with him is a long, long one, but I have time to spare so what the heck. Let's write as many as we can!

Starting with the best!

His Family.
Because no one spells family better to Kiravias than Nyilan Lucas Black and Diem Teglenei. These two characters were the closest that ever got to Kiravias, and the ones that always were there for him. Damnit I get my eyes teary just thinking about it.
PULL YOUR CRAP TOGETHER, ICE.
Their dynamic, their understanding, their agreement and their exchange of growth. It was organic as organic can be, and I hope these two go on further!

The Walking Mess.
It didn't matter if it was in Estar, Quin, Bast or even Thorn, at some extent, Kiravias was always somewhat influenced by Flameborn, either distantly, or very, very directly. Far too directly sometimes. Some of his greatest turns in life were in grand part due to one of them.

The Tower.
Home away from Home. It was the only place where Kiravias felt comfortable. Where he felt alive and with purpose. Surrounded by nerds to nerd mages to nerd MAGES TO MAGIC WITH, it was his only true home, the place he originally avoided, but eventually saw himself spending all if not his day working to promote the Tower and teach magic to everybody whilst still somewhat carrying out his own researches. Even if he had to deal with authoritative figures like Elise and Alastor, that we all know, wild mages don't really get along with.
It made up with far more cordial figures, like his master-in-title and totally not surrogate mother, Angela Amana, colleagues like Rave Everflow and Astarial, or even illusive characters like Carlos de Baeda, or even those that set his dark and twisted path to follow before he could even realize it; Caroline and Azar!, or even, latter additions like Buster-don't-call-me-Buster!

The Errant Paladin
If there is a character too good for Team Good and too amazing to describe in less that one paragraph, that's Daltanius Silverarm. Kiravias met him basically in his first week tenday in the island, and while Kiravias was not short of morally grey deeds, he always remained in the epicenter of true neutrality, with his ethical anchor in the shape of the paladin. More than a friend and tutor, Daltanius was what Kiravias saw of all good in the island, with enough humor and wit to go along with.

The Nicolas Cage of Arelith
Xy! Xy, which full name I can't remember.
Xy Kiravias met one day as any other when going around Cordor, and I fell in love.
And it doesn't matter if Xy is not Xy, and playing a pie-obsessed drow, a red-knight interrogator, or a wild mage. Whatever shape she took, it was always inspiring and pleasant. It was one of those forces without form that are always moving , and I am only saddened that we never made things more complicated than they were with something absurd like a tangled fate or a triangle of romances.

Team Cordor!
Go Team Cordor, go! This is actually a misleading section, because it involves a lot of characters that weren't actually Cordorian, like Buppi, that secretive halfling that thought that we didn't know what he was doing and he still said otherwise to us to the face! And other figures more Cordorian like Seel, who I will be forever sad that didn't have as many feathers or scales as I wish!
It was also in Cordor that somebody actually went and asked Kiravias -what- the hells was going on with his cards, when everybody else went just "huh, strange". The first who he could share part of his mind with, and believe me, he had a lot of mind to share. Eara, I'm looking at you!
And always close to Earaling, the one bard that I miss the most, and man that Kiravias would have gone harper scout for that guy. Zankas!
And Twiiiiiiiiiiiigy, Squiggie! The slippery fishhin.

Team Nature? Screw that!
Too many natureish characters to recall and group, when there was just one that really got deep in the manliest way possible.
If Nyilan was his warlockery brother, the second brother that Kiravias couldn't entirely have was Brendon Aseph. Lighthearted, witty, amusing, fast paced and tangible and by all means, a literal wingman. This was the kind of character Kiravias wanted to get along with, and he would have studied nature magic and delve into druidism for him, just like Zankas, if only he had been around more often for all those manliest drinking contest we never got along to do!

Everything That Celdura Did, Ever.
WHEN Kiravias was just, JUST delving into the dark, the first true underdarker character that he met was, unsurprisingly, Khan, which left a sense of strange kinship on him. A sense of mutual understanding, despite the fact that KHAN WAS A BLOODY LYCAN GNOLL MONK TEARING THINGS WITH HER BARE CLAWS. And Celdura is -everywhere-. Eeeeeeveeeeerywhere! At this rate I may end up rolling a gnoll.

Team Dark? Team Dark.
Veldryn! You can't, you CAN'T say magnificent bastard without thinking of Veldryn, or his whole messed up house. I am glad of how much we messed up each other with the NOT subtle threats and actual knifes to the neck, and like many others, sad that it's not going to grow any more than that.
Team Gnoll? Team Kobold! Tonky, Kastor, andwhothehellamImissing? DARTAK! You lot are amazing.
Axe? Axe. Axe axe axe. Axe axes very axily.
Zestra, Faldri, Guster!
Mioz and god damn bloody Yniah!I am glad I got to meet you before rolling.
Ruby and Saphira! The two gnomes that Kiravias wished he got time to meet better. Seems he won't be making it to the conclusion of the project, eh?
Varos for being a cryptic and mysterious rogue! The only TRUE rogue!
ASB'EL, TOTALLY NOT ISABEL! I would MARRY your character, and then poison her and inherit all that she owns before she does that to me! If I knew it was even possible to do so faster than her.

And the Mandatory Honorary Mention for Stage-exit!
Ghaelmesh Rhun.
You are amazing, and I still regret not taking that call for the artifact quest you were setting up. At the very least, I am glad that out of all the characters in the server, it was one just in the appropriate degree of classiness for the situation!

Extra Bonus Dev Kudos!
And this wouldn't have been in the slightest possible without Action Replay, that more than making the class alone, was there to balance and adjust it at all times! Maybe one day I'll figure who did you play.

And the vast number of characters that I've crossed along the lines and I was glad to do so!
STARRING!
Jericho Nova!
Drenko!
Annabel!
Blaze!
Craul - or Reptile, or Nyloth, or whatever disguise you are rolling now with that fancy ESF: Bluff :P
Quickfingers! I never, -never- figured out your real name. Hmph!
Edrahil! The glare, the disdain...! There was still so much to do...
Nicholaus!
The Ardath Siblings! - He'll forever remain sore of THAT one time :P
Dasha, because she's never away from the siblings!
Trockard!
Samuel!
Sharo!
Ravarora!
Alejandro!
Bok!
Sorri!
Toniel!
Stellen Varg!
Borrus!
Oturo and whatever that kid is playing nowadays!
*List overloads and explodes*

I can't brain anymore. This post is full of typos and editorial mistakes. Do I care? Heck no!

And I know that if it's not a swarm of people that kill me for rolling him, it'll be Susitsu and Mondegreen alone in a ritualistic execution. But don't worry!
BECAUSE IT GETS.
EVEN.
BETTER.

Kiravias may be gone to forever wander the planes and sing The Song, but he has left something behind. Something that he couldn't take with him. You can guess what it is before it knocks on your door :P

Kiravias was always that mysterious person in the background. One my elf really did not feel well when spoke to Tialirr at any time (never figured out who the heck he is).

Oh nooo! Just when Veldryn and Kiravias may have been better 'frienemies'! The time they knew each other was brief, but eventful. Sad to see him go!

Well.

WTF.

...

O.o o.O WADAAAAAAAAAAFAK

In a more intelligible way :

1) WTF
2) Kiravias was dope
3) You better make another char pronto, first class rpers aren't allowed to retire. To be noted that if you wonder what to remake ... *coughs coughs* cavalry rp *coughs coughs*. My hand is totally offered if you want to play a relative of Gael or whatever the heck you want as long as we get the chance to rp more together :)
4) Imagine my surprise when in a lonely grinding session I stumble across a retiring superb character ... it took me totally by surprise and was very well done and full of mystery. It took me a while to realize it was a "final" decision as in a real retirement. Like 80% into our exchanges I was still unsure as I was expecting full scale event for a char of that magnitude. The lonely quiet retirement was very classy tho. Kudos.
5) I was a bit frustrated (in a good way) not to be more personnally involved into Kiravias' backstory, the scene would have been that much more enthralling, even if it was already grand. And thanks for giving a rp toy to make him live up even after his retirement.
6) Was listening to Game of thrones' season 6 soundtracks during the scene :) made it that much more awesome!
7) WTF

Thanks for the burden of having to tell "them", tsk! hehe :)

Scrate up!!! Well made, and well played.

"Quickfingers! I never, -never- figured out your real name. Hmph!"

*in the Mortal Kombat Voice* Quickfingers Wins.

But seriously, one of the most original characters in my soon to be 9 years playing on Arelith.

Qeelak is on a serious drinking binge right now. No big deal!

Funnily enough, the above image is from Andelos, not Oturo.

What to say about the great Cardman that anybody have said about? An excellent character from an awesome rper! I am really looking forward for your next crazyness, Iceborn and I will keep in mind (and miss a lot) your rolled wild summoner of volcanoes for long long time!

Keep up the amazing work!

Wander well, Kiravias! The cardmage was a brilliantly developed character, and I always enjoyed seeing him in passing and reading the Flipping Coin on the forums. He might be gone, but I don't have the faintest doubt that his legacy will live on for a long time yet.
May you live in interesting times.

Oh damn it Iceborn!

And it was starting to get very interesting within the research side of things.

Either way thanks for our time together discussing arcane theories and doing joint experiments about Delayed Fireballs was very interesting!

What's an aura?

Kira was a fun character, will be missed. How will Twiggy survive without arguments with his dragon?

Jack Lynch - Elf on the Shelf
Gwendolyn Gallowmere - Justice Clown
Shanty - Holy Questing
Daniel Castemont - Historian

RIP Cards, Zankas shall play your tune for centuries. Sad to see him off but I can't argue with celebration of what you have done. And he likes the dessert, maybe he'll visit against all likelihood.

The kind of RP that I felt drove me to try harder as a player, looking forward to your next.

Darn it! You miss one weekend and one of the greatest characters on the server buys the farm! XD
I've no doubt your next character would be a blast also. Kudos for your role play! We look forward to your next story.
