I'm bored
I'm bored, and I'm not ashamed to say it.
I've been trying to get into Arelith again for the past four days, and I always ended with the same result; playing became a chore, more so when I don't have any other activities to keep my busy.
SO I guess this is a cry out to anyone out there with a new concept in mind!
New character, faction, heck, I'll roll a character to test your epic's newly invested peg legs industry in lower Cordor.

Make a bard who sings charming songs and dance about. Don't forget to murder your audience afterwards, though - because you just remembered that you are a Chaotic Evil minstrel of doom.

Re: I'm bored
Did you tried a warlock (bard path)?
Those who made one are indeed happy and saying is something fresh and funny to play.
(I should try one myself...)

Would love to try a melee Feylock Blackguard personally. Try it yourself!

When my brood and I soar on wings of fire, and wreak our scourge over Caer Callidyrr; your kith will fall and your kin will too- then what will all of Moonshae do?

I usually pick something challenging. My personal credo: Gimp your toon in the most creative ways.
Pick feats like: Silver palms, Courteous magocracy, Alertness, Skill focus persuade, Improved initiative.
These make the most unusual builds and sweet for RP.
But. In general what kind of concepts you are playing?

I'd say that when a game isn't enjoyable anymore, taking a break is the wisest course of action. In my own experience (I often and liberally take breaks of that nature), the characters I enjoyed the most playing were characters that were defined by their accomplishments as opposed to who they were.
Every successful character I made (And there were many failed ones) started with a simple idea that I then refined through the rp I had with others. They didn't start with their backstory set in stone, but rather built it as they went along.
Usually, all my character concepts stem from a period of history or a nation that entrance me, and I then figure out how to involve that in the game. Pick an archetype you enjoy and work it in the Arelith setting. Off the top of my head, you could go for an Italian Condotierre (Mercenary) or fencer, a Hanseatic League merchant, an explorer sent to Maztica that ends up staying in Arelith (Think about famous historical explorers). Do a bit of research and have fun with it.
Of course that's just what I enjoy. Some people will dig straight in the fantasy lore of FR and eat it up, and that's fine too. A big part of retaining a character is admittedly finding friends early on, in order to have semi-regular rp and having grinding buddies.

My advice is play an ignorant character. The world of Faerun is not so 'magical', despite magic existing. Most people live quiet mundane lives in their farms and smithies and what-not.
Play a character that isn't aware of what 99% of things on Arelith are. 'Learning' these things, by questioning by-standers everytime something like that takes place, will give you alot of opportunities for roleplay and shaping your character further.

Yeah, that's a lot of fun. When there's a chat about Bane this and Bane that, and you ask wtf is Bane, the reactions you get are priceless

Re: I'm bored
If roleplaying on Arelith has become a chore, I daresay not even the most engrossing character concept will cure that.
I'll offer an alternate approach to this problem of yours. Whenever I got "bored" it was because the quality of my roleplay had plateaued. The remedy was always to fall in with players who challenged and inspired me, regardless of the character concept I'd chosen.
Otherwise, just keep hacking at it, because there's no formula for finding 'the one', but you'll know it when you have it.

Why should the great bell of Beaulieu toll when the shadows were neither short nor long?

Re: I'm bored
When my kids declare they are bored, they end up with a monumental list of household chores.
What I am trying to say is - go do something else for a while.
