The Slow War

Post by Foolin~ »

Kudos to Dm Grumpy Cat and everyone that stood out in the cold with us waiting for the villains to show up to their party. I was made supremely late in welcoming my house guests but it was worthy it.

This screenshots-related game is always so frustrating.

At least my elf did few symbolic hits onto Cassius in the gate and significant damage on Vence :D

I hoped so badly to ruin that Cassius epic moment when he stood there to hold his mighty speech "So it has come to this..." by knocking him on his butt but the lags did not allow me to drink that potion so long...:X

Maybe next time should these battles be splitted into several regions with smaller groups fighting each other.

That was great fun!

The lag adds to the chaos of battle.

I'd like to give praise for the event that gave me the time to make salt circles around every piece of Sencliff furniture for a certain someone's return, the reactions were priceless.

I want to +1 the "baddies". This was the most nerve wracking conflict I have been a part of.

Thanks all.

Team good won, barely, Gallostone was epic as a villain. But died during the fight and was rolled, so after that, I have no clue. Good game.

I'd like to thank all the people who turned up, on both sides. You were all amazing. A pity I didn't get past an unfortunate freindly fire hellball incident... But the buildup to that fight from Team Good's side of things was fantastic.

Immersive and tense conflict like that relies on both sides of the affair having some real classy players. So I salute the lot of you.

Seconded. A cut of our army never made it to the docks with Liberator because the lag monster at sea was too much to wrestle. I had hoped to see some clashes at lower Guldorand!

Despite the sluggish combat the event went smoothly otherwise, and sounds like a build up played a big part on both sides. Cheers, guys.

It would have been good to cut up the groups I agree. And I want to apologise that I couldn't get the liberator folks to the destination on time (though as I recall by the time I knew that they were stuck at sea- the battle had begun though.)

Several times I did suggest that seperating people out and removing buffs would reduce lag, but as a DM I was unwilling to take too much of an artificial hand in it. If I'd seperated them either via use of monsters in various areas to string folks out, or just ooc 'ordering' people to go to place a and place b) I run the risk of accusations of favoritism.
'Grrr, DM Grumpycat put my level 12 fighter with X and Y against team B, and our builds arn't super amazing. She meant us to loose! She's totes on the side of team evil!'
'Stupid DM! If we hadn't been made to split up into teams of 3, then we would have won!'
'But it makes no sense for us not to barricade such and such! It's not IC! Why is DM grumpycat hating on us?!'

In huge pvp events like this I really try to take a gentle hand- working only in reaction to what players told me, and even then trying to give minimum mechanical advantage. I really hope I succeeded in this.

So yes - in most other situations I entirely agree with the lag. It would have been much better to have people in different areas. But given the nature of this event, I didn't feel comfortable forcing that on people, for fear of accusaions of favoritism or bias.

Still once again I am very, very proud of how everyone handled themselves - especailly the attacking force. Kudos to you all!
This too shall pass.

(I now have a DM Discord (I hope) It's DM GrumpyCat#7185 but please keep in mind I'm very busy IRL so I can't promise how quick I'll get back to you.)

A shame the Liberator never made it to the Lower Docks but lag is lag and for how big this was it wasn't all that bad. (Says the character not standing in sparkle town).

It was great fun to be there for the build up. So much build up.

And to learn the crane of Guldorand is nigh indestructible as it should be.

I feel you.
That said, who ever takes this 2000 ping mass-RP-pvp seriously is making a big mistake. Whatever happened, happened. The moment I logged into a server with 76 players I realized the results of this pvp will be decided by random luck anyway :)

I want to thank all those who got themselves involved in all the stress and the drama and the build-up in the past few days, before the attack. It was totally worth whatever follows IC, past the attack. Kudos!

Edit: And on a personal note, I was stuck on a ship that never made it to Guldorand even 25 min after I set sail from Cordor, GrumpyCat was definitely busy so I treated it as 'bad wind condition' and used a lens! God bless lenses!

Haven't been to war event in awhile now, though I do think the last one was allies attacking Wharftown.
This one was very cool and like everyone says, the build up with friends and allies showing up made it a lot of fun, and I arrived feeling a bit late but still well before the first skirmish.
Lag always makes this sort of thing challenging, but somehow I managed to actually stay alive through the entire thing while be able to commit to a handful of fights.
Near the end when I though all was lost and I remember seeing what I think was the last Necromancer alive on the backside of the mercantile building, I told myself, this is it, time for some clarity and charge the SOB. I have no idea where everyone else was, so many were dead though. All I seen was I think a wolf summons and someone in Large feline form. The wolf attacked the Necro as I was buffing, just clarity and haste, by the time I ran up, the wolf made the final blow and killed him. I physically slumped my shoulders and laughed to myself because I probably would have been killed. Good wolf, good wolf. After that I recall more reinforements showing up, dwarves, which was very cool as they were ready for a fight.

Loads of fun guys, thanks.
