I found discord to be very useful when running a settlement as it allowed direct access to staff in regaurds to questions over does and don'ts. Such as evictions rules and the like. It's also very useful in speaking with DMs over event planning etc.

That being said, outside of direct help, Discord is a good place to share memes of which I am a huge fan 😀

There are a few ways of playing Arelith that are in conflict with one another. Cooperative vs competitive role-play, coordinated vs organic interactions and discord vs forums. Personally I like my enemies to come hard, my allies to be made in game, and my updates to appear on the Announcement thread.

You should look up the definition again, or go watch Gaslight the movie. Anything except sabotaging health threads with conspiracy theories.

Today I learned it is gaslighting to tell people to not erotic roleplay because children might be playing the server.

I don’t even know if you play here, but everything you’ve said sounds like [REDACTED DISCORD GROUP OF BANNED PEOPLE] “talking” points. If you hate things this much here, you should just move on for your general well-being.

I’m deleting a bunch of stuff for anyone wondering what these means.

I know, was subject to and witnessed how Screenshots and chatlogs were used by players, factions and prolific Leaders to base their characters decisions on, using ooc Information to discern the "truth".

Players trade information and expect people to read up on Group discords to stay in the loop like its some unpaid job they are expected to do.

Pinging their channels when pvp is to happen is also done like its no big Deal.

Doesnt matter what 3rd platform is used, only that discord is so instantaneous and Promotes/normalizes behaviour that is diminishing the arelith experience, its become faster, easier and abundant and there is no way back and we all know this.

The only good thing about discord used to be the minmir subthread. Feet4Life

This is straight up cheating. Those people should be banned.

I too enjoyed the Arelith memes. But that's about it, everything else was highly unnecessary and could be done in the games OOC -faction messages.

My only real problem with the proliferation of discord is needing to straddle like three different public discords to be "in the know" in regards to certain Things, especially when all the "mechanics talk" happens on 3.0. That, to me, says that it has become too much even beyond all private circles.

But even if that is the case, what're you gonna do? The sentiment that they will always exist is the correct one.

People should give 0 discord use a shot for a week and see how they like it, if they haven't.
Hells, even turn no-tells on.

Can be a massive game changer. Love it.

3.0 shouldn't exist. I am happier not being in it. It's a salt mine.

Some positive tips for those who do want to try and make a change:

- Try turning off Discord/Social Media when you’re logging into Arelith. This not only helps you focus on what you’re doing, but you’ll be more inclined to reach out to strangers IC for the sake of contact. It leads to new story opportunities.
- Try out -notells. It’s not always a bad thing to shut out the masses and focus your mind into an IC-only state.
- When switching from being in lively discussions with friends on discord to heading in game, give your friends a heads up that you’ll be unavailable OOC.
- Then think about what your character has had for breakfast today, what they want to achieve, and what they will set out to do first. Framing your mind around your character’s motivations before logging in helps to separate them from yourself.

Hope this helps!
