I realised I've not really done this yet - kudos from Eldwyn
I'm not rolling just yet, so this isn't one of those kudos threads, but I thought it'd be good to drop some kudos to the folks who've been involved in Eldwyn's journey thus far.
DM Wish -
You created a situation with that sword that, while still not resolved due to rather unfortunate active/inactive times, was quite a major impact on how the old man conducts himself. So thank you for giving that opportunity to develop the character. I hope at some point we'll be able to see that situation through to its completion.
Rannos Susidian -
For giving Eldwyn an opportunity to do what he does best. Even though Rannos is sometimes frustrating, often absent, and frequently misguided, Eldwyn knows who his friends are and Rannos is one of them. Rieper, you play this character so very well - Idealistic, somewhat naive yet strangely paranoid, pious, reactionary, and yet ultimately incredibly well meaning... There's depth there, and I urge that you keep exploring where those character traits can take you. You've set up something in Guldorand that can turn into a truly remarkable thing if we allow the way we play it to morph and change in accordance with the needs of the environment.
Lyssa -
A great friend to Eldwyn and a genuine delight to RP with. These days, I don't see enough of this character, or any of your others, and that saddens me. Lyssa has been a huge part of me finding out who Eldwyn is, learning his nuances and how his mind works. I don't think you appreciate what a service you've done in this regard. Eldwyn misses Lyssa being around, and so do I.
Relia Danlenocelle -
Eldwyn's best friend. Never ending patience with his flaws and faults, mild wrecklessness and tendency to drag her off to gods-forsaken holes in the moral, spiritual and physical fabric of the isle. Relia is the ally Eldwyn needs. A remarkably well crafted and beautifully roleplayed character that a great many others could learn from. Uncompromisingly elvish, while still being wonderfully accessable to those who are not. A language tutor, co-conpirator, secret comedian, and fellow observer... Some day, we'll get that second ring. Some day. Just move to a sensible part of the world so the timezones aren't such a damned mess.
Daltanius Silverarms -
The instigating point of the situation Wish set up... Daltanius forged Eldwyn's own weapon, and you described it so beautifully. Thank you for that. Daltanius is delightfully silly in a way that isn't annoying ooc. That's rare. A strange mixture of never ending meme-fountain, and actually decent storytelling. Long may he continue answering every question Arelith asks of him, with paladin class features.
Hannah Narengawa -
Again, a huge part of Eldwyn's development as a character. You provided one of the most emotionally traumatic events in Eldwyn's life, setting Eldwyn's paternal instinct against his loathing of Malar's ideals, then further compounding it by being involved in hurting one of Eldwyn's closest friends. Hannah was a pit of confusion and difficulty for Eldwyn, and that is a wonderful thing to be. One of the best antagonists/friends I have come across in any roleplay situation, in any game, ever. The end of that storytelling session had a grown man (read; me, ooc) a little bit choked up... I could not give a bigger kudos.
Red Highfen -
The patient soldier. Eldwyn has found a kindred spirit in this hin. Pragmatic, resilient, brave to the point of stupidity ("Yeah, of course we can take on those Juggernauts/Beholders/whatever the gods may throw at us"). Despite slight misgivings as to Red's moral positioning, Eldwyn knows a good soldier when he sees one, and Red is exactly that. The wry, knowing humour and sharp wit behind that rather serious facade are brilliantly roleplayed. It's a pleasure to have Red around.
Isabella Coltello/Elraiendel -
Izzy was the first to employ Eldwyn when he arrived, and has recently made Eldwyn feel prouder of her than he ever thought possible - Largely by Izzy managing to not be unrelentingly awful. Another figure who invokes the paternal response in Eldwyn's behaviour, Izzy is yet another well roleplayed heap of moral ambiguity. Light and shade in equal measure, all inspired by this pragmatic materialism in which gain for gain's sake is acceptable. A challenge to Eldwyn's way of thinking, and an excellent counterpoint to his moral idealism. Well played. An excellent character.
Celendil Silverspear -
What a wonderfully odd and quirky character Celendil is. Eldwyn is never quite sure what to make of her, but knows her to be a person of quality - A good friend, a capable ally, and also a source of minor frustration at times. Excellently played.
Edric Chellain -
Brilliant source of Nobanionite everything. Lore, knowledge, attitude, events... This character was one that drove things forward in so many ways. Guldorand will be worse off for your choice to roll. Edric and Eldwyn made a great team, and I'm sad that the slightly mocking platonic (I assume... I can't read Edric's mind) bromance had to come to an end.
Shaeyl, Draavos and the old school Guldorand crew -
You lot welcomed me into an interesting and dynamic environment, and that's awesome of you. Well crafted characters all, and still referenced by Eldwyn on a fairly regular basis.
Alice Scarlett -
Alice, unlike so much around her, is just so bloody nice. Eldwyn respects that, and I respect you, the player, for sticking to that so very well. Even when someone is an annoyance ooc, the character is unflinchingly pleasent, well meaning and kind - even when it has negative consequences for her. You're an excellent addition to the Guldorand crew.
Malak/Shauna -
I've lumped these two together on the grounds of them being "that Cordor pair", but in reality, they could both have an entire essay of praise heaped on them for character depth and quality crafting of words/personality. A source of distrust and intrigue on one hand, and actually rather personable on the other. I was quite sad when malak stopped running Cordor.
Ghestaldt/Finibelle/Brog -
Leaders do tend to impart their qualities onto the thing they lead. Ghestaldt is tuogh and stubborn, and so, therefore, is Brog. Finibelle presents a wonderful more approachable side to this dynamic... These characters have created something awesome, powerful, and unrelentingly dwarf.
Laine -
The early days were a blast as a result of Laine. The luckpriest, the gambler, the willing collaborator and source of humour, rolled eyes, raised eyebrows and mild irritance. Laine, if not for his vanishing, could have been one of Eldwyn's closest long term friends. That character is/was an amazing feat of roleplay adaptability. Such charm... If I were so inclined, I'd swoon.
The Distant Antagonists -
Roland Asen, Vance Gravelle, Cassius Gallowstone... Without some sense of looming adversity, all this would be worthless. These characters, through their astonishing capacity for dire evil and nastiness, have provided that in abundance. I just wish, in each case (bar Gallowstone, who managed to pull off the epic showdown with consumate excellence), that the animosity thus far had been more direct and confrontational. There's still time. Villains and evils are absolutely necessary.. This section can be read as a hats off to all those who fill this role, who make it their mission to bring dark atrocities, vile and nefarious schemes, to the isle. The more quality villains we have, the better... Maybe at some point, one of the dastardly villain brigade will spell an end for the old man. I certainly hope so.
I know I've missed people. No doubt I'll add to this as things occur to me... But all the people I've mentioned here and plenty more besides, have made Eldwyn an absolute blast to play.

Re: I realised I've not really done this yet - kudos from El
I really like what you've done with Eldwyn. I can't help but love characters that seem to jump straight out of the medieval lore and mythology that I grew up with, and Leofricson is a very good example of this. Of someone who belongs in the game world and is a seamless part of it.
Well done sir.
Well done sir.

Eldwyn is the man. Stoic swordsman bearing the burden of a town's responsibility, loyalty to his all too human lord, and a cursed great sword that causes people to go berserk... Really, he's a badass spaghetti western cowboy hero stuck in a medieval fantasy setting. Well played, sir! Kudos!

Eldwyn is probably one of Lyssa's best friends. Forged under fire and tempered, she thinks of him very much as the older brother she lost on coming to Arelith. He's patient (usually) and his thoughtful wisdom is a great foil to a sorceress' impetuous fire. When I can play more, she'll be back. Don't you worry about that. With scads of stories to tell.

Even if it kills Eldwyn and all the people mentioned in this kudos, minus that star-player at the top, we will see that event line to it conclusion; one way or another!
Re: I realised I've not really done this yet - kudos from El
Eldwyn has a rare sort of quality to him - though one that seems to be exceptionally consistent across your characters. He feels like a real human being; someone that reacts to and is shaped by the world around him - and that's no easy thing to do. Too often, I think, we fall into the trap of roleplaying characters and, in an ongoing stint of well-intentioned helicopter-parenting, do it so intently that the poor things are entirely unable to ever grow. Eldwyn is a wonderful counterpoint to that; proof that the most engaging characters are defined by their reaction to their environments rather than an isolated personality stringently held apart from it like some lovecraftian brain-in-a-jar. That's something I often forget. I'm exceptionally grateful that Eldwyn (and you) are there to remind me.
As a character; of course, he's wonderful. But you already know that. There are, perhaps, two humans on the entire island that Relia might maybe dare to consider something like friends. Eldwyn's one of them. If that doesn't speak of the regard in which she holds him, I don't know what would.
Keep up the brilliant work. I'm simultaneously looking forward to seeing where Eldwyn's story goes and dreading the fact that, eventually, the old sea raider's tale will end. Until then, though, we'll keep trying to make that ring.

The man, always will be the man, and Eldwyn is the example of it, the Kudos must be given to your character, and your always inmersive roleplay that include others brilliantly!
