Suggestion: new option in the altar script to attempt to determine the deity to which an altar is consecrated, and a new option to attempt to determine the deity by whose power an altar was desecrated. These would both cost piety.
Some suggested modifiers to account for in the calculation:
- Paladin, cleric, or favoured soul levels (paladin not as much as cleric or FS)
- Divination spell focuses add a bonus
- Lore
- Pantheon (huge bonus to identifying altars from the same racial pantheon)
- Piety level of the person attempting the identification
- Aspect of the deity (same aspect gets bonus, and huge penalty to ID a T&D deity)
Ideally, a typical pure cleric would be better at identifying the deity to which an altar is consecrated than a lore wizard of the same level would. Identifying altars to your own deity should stay automatic, and identifying altars that are part of the same pantheon should be possible (but require a check) even if you have no levels in a religious class or ranks in lore.
Identifying a hostile trickery and deceit altar from a different pantheon should be difficult even for the highest level clerics or FSs with lore.
