Exponentially Reduced XP gains

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Re: Exponentially Reduced XP gains

See, I'm never going to get behind punishing people for adventuring in an area simply because it's not appropriate to their level. This is because it's an RP server first and foremost, with mechanical advancement being an important, but secondary, part of the experience. If your level 30 ranger wants to be part of the Bramble watch and RP with that group, then I'm not going to throw obstacles in your way.

I trust players to, in general, avoid farming areas well below their level simply because the current xp curve is already pretty brutal. But some players don't want the mechanical challenge of level appropriate areas, or have built mechanically inefficient characters for the fun and story of it and can't survive level appropriate areas. Nobody has priority to any area of the module.

(Incidentally, this whole problem is one of the reasons that I love the FL module concept - as an admin, it's a whole lot easier to create a module with plenty of hunting areas for characters of varying experience levels).
