General Occupation Map

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

General Occupation Map

Post by Cihparg »

As uninteresting as that might sound to you, and me, here's the plan:

Put up a page somewhere at arelith.com - Perhaps map.arelith.com?
Then, use minor information from the server to color-code sections of the map.
- That already sounds like a task I'm not sure is even possible.

Display the map as interactive at the page.
* If a section has players, tint it to the default "Occupied" color
* * The stronger the occupancy is, the stronger the color could be.
* Using a number to display how many people there are, could also help.

It does not need to update in real time; something akin to portal.arelith.com would work fine.
* That is, refresh to update the page.

I realize that the map couldn't display /who/ is in that exact area of the map,
and the areas would likely need to be split per-city, or such as.

If a map is too far stretched, then perhaps a list would be sufficient.
* The map, and it's sections, need not be all too accurately rendered.

But, more or less, the point of the map (or list) would be to help users either find people to roleplay with,
or avoid causing excess area scripting.
From what I remember, NWN isn't all too good with handling tens of people in the same zone.

That, I suppose is all there is to say for the idea. As default, it's open for discussion.
* Seems like you'd either need to come to the chat, or PM me, if you have something to say.
