Barbarian

Post by Invader_Nym »

I noticed the developers are still plugging away trying to get Barbarian sorted out.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you can not fix Barbarian, because it's flawed conceptually. A character class whose central premise is that they zerg in without any sort of strategy, and get hit a lot, is just incoherent.

If you want to make a character like that, just make a fighter with a ton of HP and a high AC. There is no need to distinguish this play style with another class. It's my suspicion that Barbarian will be tweaked and retweaked until the end of time.

I'm pretty sure the team is very comfortable with the design of barbarian, and this is only a number tweak to make sure it falls in line with the other classes.

I don't like the speed increase they get when they're raging. I haven't seen it in action since the nerf (it's shorter now, right?) but in PvP it only ever seems to get used to kite the enemy/escape. That doesn't seem very in line with the whole theme of "Raging and charging into combat." ... More like raging, and then start-stop running away from combat while frantically slapping yourself with bandages.

I've never been so angry that my natural response was to methodically kite+heal.
Characters: Xun'sali (ACTIVE), Tianae Tymeaneldth (Rolled), Sylali (Rolled), Magpie (Rolled), Ker'uanna Tymeaneldth (Rolled), Lepota Poklona (Rolled), Andariel Bloodletter (Shelved), Tahl'tril Cyredrretyn (Rolled), L'omithiel (Shelved).

It lasts 18 seconds now.

I see a big difference between 1) an well eqiped, tactical and methodical trained fighter that can defend himself in battle and 2) an adrinaline pushed brutal tribal barbarian. (next to the agile dodging one...)
This variety is the core of fun.

Barb is a bit complex because of differnt paths (const or dex, rage or tribal, three rage features...) which all need to be taken into accound. So the mechanics can't be too simple.

To the rushing and healing style: Yes that does not realy fit into barb rp. If you would like to be extrem consequent you could keep the high temp hp and prevent healing (maybe only kits and not heal potion) during rage.

That seems reasonable. Much more of a "charge" and much less of a "fast travel".
