Emote Feedback:

Post by Mr_Rieper »

This is something I've recently been using more often, and I've noticed a few issues with it. It's a great system and the animations themselves are useful, but some of them come with a few problems that make them awkward to use.

The first issue I've seen is that some emotes come with attached voice lines. I'm aware there are a few edits you can make to prevent it from shooting off a voice line every time you emote, but is there any way to detach these animations from voice commands from server side? There's already a voice menu for the more conveniently minded, but it's a bit awkward when you want to use the wave emote and it immediately spouts off your character's "Hello" voice line.

We all emote nodding, waving, shaking our heads and perhaps even scratching our heads regularly. It would be great if these were simple -emote commands that didn't trigger a voice line.

I've also noticed that some of the animations aren't able to be emoted either. Is there a way to manually trigger the tired animation, or the poisoned/drunk animation? Or the arm shaking/angry animation? These are all distinctly missing, it seems.

I've also been playing a bit of Space Station 13 lately, and there's one very useful feature in there for RP purposes, which is that if you inspect somebody, it shows up in the other player's console that another character is looking at them. Some people might take issue with this, but I think it's a great form of passive interaction that definitely gets the RP going. When two characters are aware that they are looking at each other, it tends to spark some RP. Maybe a line in the console that tells you who is examining you, unless one of the characters is stealthed or invisible, or something to that effect. Then again if they were invisible, they wouldn't be able to be examined.

(One other thing, I've noticed your character laughs when drunk. Is it a PG13 thing that every drunk on Arelith is a happy one?)
