Sound Lance is cool and though it definitely needed a buff, having an AoE makes it impossible to use against close range targets without damaging yourself, since unlike fireball you can't just ground target it.
Perhaps the spell could be made user (and perhaps even party) friendly?

As an aside; the deafen effect doesn't seem to wear off. I cast it on a mob charging at me; and got caught in the AoE.
It's two hours later. I'm still deaf, despite the best efforts of a restoration scroll and a good lie down.
I mean, it's immersive. And I can no longer hear the party rogue calling for help. So, a win?

I haven't experienced the deafness bug, I'll see if I can recreate it.
Edit: Nevermind I'm just blind and didn't notice, it does indeed seem permanent. Not even Remove Blindness/Deafness works.

As a further suggestion, the deafness should probably be something like 1d3 or 1d6 rounds rather than 1 round/level, such a lengthy debuff seems like overkill on a damage spell.

Thanks I'll look into the Deafen bug and I may shorten it down yeah. Also wasnt my intention for the AoE to be friendly fire, so I'll look at it as well.
