Shadow Wharftown: Writ Feedback

Post by Nekonecro »

The writ "Shadowplane: The Belfry Tower (Lvl 14-25)

This writ is currently too hard, objective one and two are easy however the upper floors contain vampire rogues and vampire thralls (the male child ones) which are too difficult to fight at the level we attempted (22).

The vampire thralls in particular have 44 AB and an average of 50 damage per hit.

Yeah, those spawns are copied over from the manor of Mourn.

The zone really isn’t meant for a grind, it’s one of those FOIG areas you go to for a really specific reason.

A friend and I were there recently and managed to clear the place. He was a 2H barbarian and I was a slinger cleric. I buffed him through the roof and he took care of the vampires and thralls, while i took care of the slaadi which had too much DR for him to hit through, but which Divine Favor and magic damage took care of.

What classes were you there as?

But since this is a Feedback thead, i just want to add that i LIKE these new writs, including the fact that some are extremely hard. I may be in the minority, but I do appreciate the challenge. Like the Thieves of Dreams place got lots of damage shield reflect mobs that spam dispel. Is it inconvenient? Yes. Is it great? YES!

The fact that these are EPIC writs should mean something.

I would however continue to observe the writs and increase rewards when and if needed to give players the incentive to tackle those hard challenges.

Echoing this, went as lvl 22's and while our group of three definitely COULD have handled it, our Cleric kept getting curbstomped by unlucky rolls. I'd be impressed to see someone handle the mourn vampires at level 14 though?

None of the writs have felt impossibly hard if you're over level 20, it was nice to have some structure to questing again beyond seeing if we were ready to tackle Abazuur yet (spoiler, we weren't) and the locations and tone are really good, sombre and spooky.

My biggest issue so far is that the payout compared to the level 20 writs is awful. I can understand getting less xp, since slowing down after 20 is probably smart, but I did two writs yesterday (granted they are the easiest to complete) and got a total of 10k or so value out of them after getting paid. Most level 20 writs I tend to get 20-30k value out of one. With the exception of the exploration one, I would increase the pay outs from turning in the writ across the board.

It's also worth mentioning that based on some screenshots I saw of the writ rewards, every single Shadow Wharftown writ offers 2-4k less than equivalent writs available at level 20.

I was there as an archer ranger, my friend as a rather tanky bard/pdk
Normally we have little trouble clearing things.

While I'm okay with having difficult writs I do agree with the sentiment that the payout is not worth the trouble.
