I saw pickpocket was named to it in the update. Were the mechanics changed?

It was only renamed. Probably to better represent what it does for the new class as it's core skill.

It was suggested that pickpocket's functionality was going to entirely changed recently.

Co-opting this thread to add:

Don't release this and not also time the Pickpocket / Sleight of Hand rework to accompany it at the same time. Releasing a class that relies on a skill that is subject to being changed in the (presumably near?) future is the complete opposite response to releasing Climb without gear or anything new to take advantage of a niche skill in a skill stretched building environment as-is. Don't overcorrect here. Let us understand this new addition in the context of the skill rework instead of rushing to put out more content that relies on other content not fully baked yet.

The class looks interesting, for what it's worth.

Please, if not for the stability of the server, or the mental health of players, then for the workloads of the DM team, don't release a class that encourages you to take the +6 pickpocket gift without reworking pickpocket to be less grief-y.

I think we need to be a bit more patient with the Dev's here. The class is on PGCC for testing right now. I imagine it was their intention to do the skill rework when the class goes live, which seems totally reasonable to me. Lets try and break the class a bit first by combining it in funny ways with monk and bg/paladin before we get mad about missing information.

It's being stated in the context of having seen this very thing happen before. It's not an unearned criticism.

Just to post here.

Sleight of Hand is currently just a rename while the final details of the rework is developed. I agree - it should not be released until the new set is implemented, tested and given feedback if a class is dependent on it.

I will pass this along and we will release intended pathways when we have a final direction set before rework of the skill.
