First time here? Haha gotcha!!

I’ve noticed a lot a “haha gotcha sucker” features in different dungeons that are a bit... well they’re kinda crappy. They typically result in a giant waste of time that only affects you the first time you go somewhere, because after that you’ll never do it again.
Any reason for this? I understand that dungeon crawling is meant to feel perilous, but random time sinks that you have zero chance of knowing about before hand are a bit... well they’re borderline mean.
This happened to me recently on a writ that I had never gotten around to trying- but I wanting to try something different so I figured heck let’s do it. So I head into the haunted falls, I’m having a great time figuring out random puzzles and doors. All is good, I’m about 30 minutes into my adventure and loving it. Then suddenly, I’m in the fungal maze. I’ve no way to return to where I was, and everything I did up to that point was ... well very unsatisfying.
I like puzzles, I like failing puzzles, but this felt a lot like falling in the pit of doom at the granite pits. There wasn’t a trick or a clever puzzle, it was just “start over”.
Just my ten cents....
