-twohand does not work with Magic Staves
Magic staves are both 1H and 2H weapons and allow activation of -twohand, however the 1.5 times strength damage does not appear to be working when in twohand mode. It does not show on the character sheet and from reading combat log it is clear it is not being properly applied.
Some of the new magic staves seem intended for use in melee so it would be good if -twohand mode could be made to work properly for magic staff.

Re: -twohand does not work with Magic Staves
I don't believe -twohand is intended for magic staves. There are specific weapons that can activate -twohand; those would be the katana, bastard sword, dwarven waraxe (if a dwarf), cavalry weapons, and the spear.

I think it is intended to work because when you type -twohand you get a message saying "Two hand mode activated" and it removes your shield and equips the staff with two hands. You just dont get the bonus damage which seems a bug to me.

It's not intended, and you will get the same combat log message while wielding any weapon (or, I'm pretty sure, no weapon at all).
Re: -twohand does not work with Magic Staves
That is quite confusing then but thank you for clarifying.
I must admit I assumed that the purpose of -twohand was to allow you to have the option for weapons that were listed as both 1H and 2H to decide which mode you used them in. If that is not the case though then it is rather unclear (at least to me!) why some 1H/2H weapons work that way and others such as magic staff dont.

Update on this -twohand after testing a few more of the -twohand weapons on the wiki, it seems spear is not getting 1.5 times damage in -twohand mode. This might be a bug unless the spear is also a weapon not intended to work with -twohand.
And although I now understand that there is no correlation between weapon grouping and -twohand use, on reflection on magic staff I am wondering why it is grouped as a twohand proficiency weapon if there is no possible way to use it twohanded (as it is now a small weapon so even small race will one hand)? Not a bug as such but perhaps it should be removed from twohand weapon proficiency grouping if it is not able to use -twohand mode?

A small explanation is in order, perhaps :) When examining items that work with the mode, you'll see they have an item property called "Additional Property: Twohand - Medium" or something similar. What this means is that twohand mode is enabled for this weapon, if the wielder is a medium size creature.underowl wrote: Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:22 pm Update on this -twohand after testing a few more of the -twohand weapons on the wiki, it seems spear is not getting 1.5 times damage in -twohand mode. Re: -twohand does not work with Magic Staves
Ahh i see, thanks. So examining spear I can now see that it says: "Additional property: two-hand small" so I assume this means that spear can only be activated as a -twohand weapon by a small size character. In which case this is not a bug with spear, just an update to the wiki to clarify spear can only work in -twohand mode if you are small. Thanks
