Inconsistent "natural areas"

Post by Amateur Hour »

I have the Gift of the Explorer, and I recently noticed that the Druidic Stones is evidently not counted as a natural area, but the areas before it and after it evidently are. I don't see a reason why this would be? Druidic stones may be a construction, but the area in general is very much wilderness.

Can you disable it in area's that do not cause your rest meter to drain?

I'm wondering if whatever flag that's used to kick you out of the map at a server reset could work? Because I know if I log out in a quarter that isn't owned by me and the server resets, I get kicked out to the map I was in before I entered the quarter.

Same goes for forest of weir, I kind of hope we go back to old setting, because some dungeon maps are hidden to me now! After all, how many quarters get see through? If for the fear of matagamers, punish them instead. And people can name their altars ‘black marble altar’ instead of ‘altar of bane’, ‘book shelf of Shar’...

Is this tied to the other thread on potential meta gaming by the ranger/explorer map reveal or just a coincidence?

If it is: please consider not doing this. It isn't just gift of explorer that suffers from this toggle. Half a Ranger's package, from AB to the map to Ranger speed and more, is dependant on this setting. Clerics of travel domain too I think.

Re: the forest of weir - there's an argument to be made that the plane of shadow is totally not a natural setting, and especially where the map is concerned. The shadow plane is supposed to be dynamic and ever shifting, which is probably impossible to do in nwn, so I'd say it's not so surprising that it isn't regarded as natural.

On the other hand I think the Abyss counts as natural so... Yeah.

So we're very much on track.

Would that even work? The whole issue are multi-quarter common areas, is there even a script like that in those?

There's two areas after Weatherstone that does not count as wilderness/natural area.

- Skull Crags (Upper Mountains) Druidic Stones
- Skull Crags (Howling Pass) North
(these two areas are next to each other)

Neither one of them give ranger movement speed, or map reveal. Seems issue is not only with druidic stones map.
