What happened to poison VFX?

Post by Waldo52 »

Somewhat recently (in the last three months?) I've noticed that the visual effects of poison have gone from the deep drippy green of an acid essence to a barely noticeable dull green glow. I want to praise the effort here, because it looks like a new Arelith-only visual effect. But for me it's really underwhelming.

I'm struggling to understand what the problem was with the classic (and amazing) acid drip of poisons that we had a few months ago. What was the problem that the devs were looking to solve with the new and greatly diminished look of poisons? I remember seeing drow in the official neverwinter campaign that were wielding glowy green weapons dripping with poison. I remember the raw visceral reaction I had playing those campaigns as a teenager and seeing the menacing weapons.

I have no problem with the new visual effects, and they make sense somewhere. Maybe on the swords of some low level mobs in a dungeon, or as the visual effects of certain very cheap poisons. But man, I want my drippy poison sword back.

I would suspect the changes were made to have the weapon effects be visually distinct.

I can say anecdotally, when the effects are the same color, it's harder for me to differentiate between them even if the animations are different. I suspect that I'm not the only one, so maybe that's the problem meant to be fixed.

That's what I'm saying. It was awesome. IMHO the new VFX doesn't look particularly good and was a solution for a problem that really wasn't there, or was so minor that it didn't really need solving.
