Norton 360 question problem and advice

Post by Fume »

Hi all,

I hope this is the right place, apologies if not.
In a nutshell.
Been using Norton 360 for years.
More recently its been getting more and more aggressive with nags and bubbles coming up during gameplay etc.
I turn these off, an update happens and they switch the crap back on.
To be clear.
I have a laptop dedicated to NWN. I do have access to my emails but rarely use it for this or browsing.
So, a few hours ago I was on Arelith and out of the blue,
Norton blocks the connection, decides that I need VPN, activates that and basically breaks NWN.
I told it to accept NWN but for some reason it continued to block it.
I turned off VPN manually and toggled it all off.
Restarted about 5 times doing various things.
Even with direct connect, NWN keeps telling cant connect to the server etc.
So I finally crack it and uninstall Norton 360 and hey presto, NWN starts working again normally.

Im really angry at Norton for their shenanigans and basically just doing things without my consent.
So, the point to this post is I was wondering if anyone can recommend a NWN friendly antivirus for my situation.
I have Norton accross multiple devices ie my phone. On the phone its great. Operates as should, just stays quiet in the background and does its thing.
So any advice greatly appreciated as after this last hijack kind of deal, i want to switch from them.
As mentioned, this laptop is only a gaming unit, I store nothing critical on it etc.
Any advice greatly appreciated🙂

Get a different anti-virus. That's basically the answer here. Something like AVG is free and works reasonably well for what you need.

Try harder! Help set a good example of roleplay for the server culture.
