It was a wild ride.
I left all Arelith related discords on Thursday rather abruptly and didn’t say goodbye to the people who made it possible to play Lin for as long as I did, short as it may have been in the grand scheme of things. Normally I don’t make kudos threads because they tend to read odd to me with a lot of ooc friends congratulating each other for playing the game, but I thought this was not only a good way to rectify the lack of fond farewells, but illustrate how much these people -all of whom I never played with before- reinstalled my faith in the server, at least for a little while.
Sorry it took me so long; I’ve been working on this since Thursday night but needed to take a number of breaks to shake out the salt.
Kethra Nagel
In a sea of “Just ignore them and they will go away’s” you were one of the few non-court noble characters that actually gave Lin a chance. And in doing so, you allowed me to put down the insecure brat that was doing what he thought he was supposed to be doing as a member of House Aermane and become the kid that was sent to Cormyr after his parents died in “tragic accidents” and was all but forgotten by the house until he showed up on their doorstep. He was still a pompous donkey, or as I put it in one of our ooc conversations someone who “thought he was cool when he was anything but”. But you played the character like a fiddle, give him a compliment and the respect he thought he deserved to placate his ego and he will think you are his best friend. I seriously can’t thank you and the character mentioned below enough for keeping me engaged while Hyacintha was moving (the player, not the character).
Azahara Sabel
I could sit here and write three paragraphs about how great of a character Az is, but I think everyone who has interacted with her knows that already, and I want to get to the most important part. How great of a person you are behind the mask. How do I know that for sure in such a short time? Because you are unafraid to stand up for what you believe in in the face of a disagreement, and you don’t let the fact that you disagree with someone sour you on them. That makes you a rare bird even in the world of functioning adults.
Of all the people that interacted with Lin, you were definitely the closest to really getting him. You played him as well as kethra did, but you also knew exactly how to control him. You knew how and when to tone him down, and how and when to let his razor tongue fly. I mentioned this in Kethra blurb, but I can’t thank you enough for the time you spent with a difficult character. You are one of those players that everyone should strive to be.
Anastria Aermane.
Yoooo-hooo! It’s the queen of emotes. You are definitely a class A role player, and in a year or so when people think back to when people played characters in the court nobles you will definitely be the one that sticks out in everyone’s mind for House Aermane. You just nailed it in a way I could never dream to achieve. The only thing I could think to say negative about you is that you live across the Atlantic, and I didn’t get to play with you enough. Next time be polite and move.
Evander Sabel
The king of charm, and the second scariest person in Lin’s world. The only reason I didn’t show it as much later on is because the first scariest person, who will be mentioned below, told me I couldn’t let you see it. I know you have plans that have plans, and I hope you get to see some of them play out, even if I unfortunately won’t be there to see it.
Midas Jarlson
Wait, how did a traitor make this list? Look, our characters were never going to get a long, but our interactions made me laugh every time without fail. People should really take notice of how well you play the balance of obvious hatred and still allow the room for roleplay. You are definitely one of the great ones. I always envisioned you being the one eventually beating Lin down in the streets after his crimes were exposed, but apparently, I greatly overestimated what constitutes an actual crime these days in game and you got beaten (pun intended) to it.
And last, but definitely not least…
Hyacintha Aermane
If in some alternate universe there was a nwn roleplayer fantasy draft, and I was a manager with the first overall pick, pick two would be on the board in seconds. Hands down I would take Inkfox over anyone. There are a lot of ways to be good at this game. Descriptive emotes, the ability to create an interesting and unique character and always stick to it even through the rough patches, being generous to others roleplaying both friend and foe, being the sort that helps less experienced players grow without coddling them, and patience for nonsense. Good players have maybe one or two of those qualities, great players have three. Inkfox has all five.
Without you, I don’t think I could have ever lived up to my vision of Lin. Your strong presence in the center of House Aermane allowed him to latch on to someone early and learn how to be a court noble from, something the character sorely needed, and I have no idea how I would have played it were it not for you. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you as a player and a person, and I wish you- and everyone mentioned above and below- nothing but the best in life.
Some honorable mentions, essentially people I didn’t play with all that much but enjoyed the brief interactions we did have.
Valerian Aermane, Alastair Montgomery, The minister of health who’s elven name I won’t disgrace by mangling here, Odrick, Madison Sabel, Khorin Cinderstone The Entirety of both House Loslansiran and house Nuhl, and probably countless others I forgot to mention.
And with that, I say “peace out hommies!”. Maybe I will catch you at the next thing.
