Tempered Flames: Five Years of Rivorndir

With news put out amongst the group itself, I wanted to take the time to make a kudos thread. It will be a selfish one, that primarily gives thanks to the people we have surrounded ourselves with.

In short, House Rivorndir is initiating its winding down and will be saying its goodbyes over the next short while, to focus on something else for an extended period. We wanted to give our thanks to the community who through the years have had people act as friends, foes, fence sitters who picked a side, and just passing acquaintances.

We are closing in on five years since the faction was formed and the sheer amount of people we’ve worked with and against through the years means that we will fall short in naming all or being able to write a meaningful phrase for each of them. So to all who have been in contact with us, we want to say thank you for the good time and enriching of the story.

A thank you to the DM Team as well, as they have played a significant part in both the tense and immersive experiences through the years. Be it something as simple as a few VFX for small public events, to larger seasonal decorations for larger gatherings or the small NPC interactions that made the environment feel alive.

While there may be too many to mention of people we have interacted with, we have been selfish and composed a list of all the members who have been a part of us through the years to the best of our past records. Every name on the list deserves a special shout out as they have been amongst those closest to us and played a central part to our growth through the years.

A non-memey response, It was truly a pleasure to play with everyone. Over two years of memories and infamous moments, of hardships and tribulations, a literal war, and the destruction of the isle to all the small moments in-between.

Honestly, I know I've been gone a few months but playing Lefric with the faction has been a pleasure. And thanks to everyone who entertained, interacted, and nourished the character playthrough.

And an explicit shoutout to the ultimate intelligence gathering agent for Lefric, my rat, "Rat", who sat in the hub for hours on end and taught me everyone's names.

On my very first day of Arelith, I made a blue-haired hin who met Aaralyn Rivorndir.
Since then, the Rivorndirs taught me all about Arelith and help me adjust! To which was repaid by betrayal, of course. Though in all honesty, Tiffa's story with the Rivorndirs, both for and against them was one of my favourite storylines I ever got to play out in 20 years of roleplay!

Some time later, Juniper ended up in a circumstance to also join the Rivorndirs, with a new story and new friendships. It's the end of an era to be sure, but all the memories in my time playing Arelith with the Rivorndirs in it have been colourful and delightful! Look forward to seeing what comes next for you guys!

My history with the Rivs has been sketchy at best, and I am thankful that it ultimately became positive.

OOCly great peeps with an IC great faction - thematically coherent without being samey, always ready to be part of stories without imposing their presence (which, by all means, they could do given the relevance, cool factor, and weight of their PCs), and overall a net positive for the server.

I probably have an extremely biased opinion, but I find it hard not to think that there's a definite aspect of Arelith history, as a world and as a server, that can be marked as "before" or "after" the Rivorndirs.

Whatever comes next will probably be just as high quality, I am sure.

I haven't had too much interaction with the Rivorndirs, and most of what I've had has been on the peripheral of the faction, hearing and involvement a few degrees outside of the faction. That being said, it was all still very fun and it's very neat to see just how much of a presence and impact on the story they've had.

Honestly, I've had dealings across three characters with the Rivorndir. From being the self-righteous Helmite Emma thinking they are corrupt and taking over Cordor (which.. Well.. Anyway! ) and trying to stop them (and failing), to being a nemesis on Theodor to being an ally and friend with Thomas.

I can genuinely say that OOCly you people are amazing and you have built your own inclusive community in your own right. I feel blessed to count many of you as my friends and will continue to do so.

Knowing how I felt when rolling Emma after 3 RL years of the Gauntlet, I know this was not an easy decision. Kudos to you and all the stories House Rivorndir created.

The end of an era! The Rivorndir were the rulers of Cordor when I started playing here, and I have to say even though I've only seen a little of them with my characters, I thought they were fun and I enjoyed my time with them and their associates. Props to Antoniette, EAldros, Zenos, Khara'gos (you ran some cool events and even though I didn't attend any, I appreciated the organisation of them), and Ginny.

Sil'avesi saw the Rivorndir as a menace upon the island, in the Lord's War she hated them, but with time she would see them as a necessary evil to keep Cordor safe and eventually she would be more and more neutral and even befriending Ginny Rivorndir, sailing on their ship under Bengus and nodding to them on the streets. Cordor won't be the same without the Rivorndir.

Kudos for what you guys done on Arelith! I only seen you in the late years but it been interesting to follow! Even on the sideline. It was always quite the grandeour seeing about 10 to a dozen Rivorndir and retainers in the square! Imposing and a show of force and influence not often seen tied to one single house on Arelith or any NWN server really.
