Hi,
First of all, what is the relationship between search, and digging? I am assuming that there is a search check to find a normal dig spot, but is there a second secret search check to actually uncover the treasure?
Second, what is different about normal digging vs archaeology digging? My character has become hellbent on finding an archaeological find, and after a hot tip from a DM to dig around in a specific area, roughly 500 digs later I have found nothing besides a few dozen worms, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something because my search is somewhat low (34). I'm wondering if uncovering archaeological artifacts is different from normal treasure digging, and if so, how, I'm not expecting there to be twinkling mounds of dirt.

Re: Digging vs archeology digging
Search finds the dig spot. If you have a shovel, you click the dig spot and it will automatically unearth whatever is buried.
Digging anywhere has a chance to find worms, in some places treasure. You don’t need search for that. If your search finds a dig spot, you’ll see it clearly marked as a selectable object on the ground.
Super weird that a DM told you where to dig after spots have been closely guarded secrets for ages.
