Add a type of essence that is purely aesthetic and overrides any existing VFX. Make it really expensive to make if the accessibility is a concern, at least that way it would pose as a sign of status or even deception.
There are so many cool VFXs I wish I could put on my weapon (my current weapon doesn't even show a VFX from essences) that are locked behind bad damage types, buffs one can't access or even specific weapons.
