Make the Shadow Plane about 35% less edgy

Post by magick in theory and practice »

The Shadow Plane isn't an inherently evil plane. I would love to see a lot of the monsters in the wilderness replaced with shadow animals (and not all shadow animals need to be evil or super edgy either) - the plane as basically anything you can find in the material world but as a shadow version.

Most of these creatures actually descend from creatures that wandered into the Shadow Plane one way or the other via the gateways and portals that form naturally or are made. Some are twisted, some are just shadow rabbits.

On top of this there are non-evil (though not necessarily trusting) denizens - and numerous creatures that go between the worlds like the Gloaming race which could use some representation. Maybe something similar to the Deep Imaskari base - just a small village of Gloamings based on Sphur Upra. (Check out underdark page 176-178 - its really cool)

A city straddling the Material Plane and the Plane of Shadow,
the gloaming city of Sphur Upra is the largest convocation of
gloamings in Faerûn. Its area is riddled with portals that connect
the Shadow and the Material Planes.

On top of this many fairy creatures - evil and good, dart in and out of the place.

It does have an edgy vibe, its meant to be misunderstood, Shar and other gods of darkness claim it as their domain - however, in terms of the setting, this is propaganda and there should be contrary examples of all these things. I do recognize however Arelith history has made it edgy and thats also valid..

Which is why I'd like to see it become just slightly less edgy so it could have a debate and distrust without people going "lmao theres skeletons there boy".
