Weapons with Race-Specific Bonuses & Rage

Post by Xersaoth »

Arelith has a lot of cool weapons that, unfortunately, have zero utility due to the following bug: race-specific bonuses count as additional properties for the purpose of enchanting, but are not cumulative with the base bonuses.

The recent fixes and updates to the character sheet make me conclude that this is currently not working as intended.

Here’s an example:

• The Dragonslayer (Peridan) Properties:

Enhancement Bonus: +2
Enhancement Bonus vs. Dragon: +6

• What my character sheet shows:

Attack Bonuses: +40/+35/+30/+25
+46/+41/+36/+31 vs. Dragon

• What I actually get vs. Dragon from the logs: +44/+39/+34/+29

Explanation: the character sheet makes it look like the +6 vs. Dragon stacks with the +2 base bonus, giving +46 on the first attack. But in reality, it is just +44, like the +6 replaces +2 instead of adding to it, as in the Vanilla NWN.

• What I should probably get:

I think now the race-specific bonuses should stack with the base enhancement bonus, as the character sheet shows.

Reasoning: the race-specific weapons lack many damage and other properties, sometimes six or even more if compared to the end-game craftable weapons, for what now, even in the best case, is a just tiny bonus of +1-2 AB, so they should likely be a lot better against that particular race. Right now, they are not, and it makes them pretty much non-viable compared to what everyone else uses.

I understand that the Dragonslayer has other properties that help to avoid using Mind Blank, but most if not all other race-specific weapons do not have anything else going for them at all, and this hits them all much harder.

So, please fix this so that the race-specific weapons gain their intended use cases and match the character sheet.

Yeap, all I do is complain.

Re: Weapons with Race-Specific Bonuses

Another bug: not only do the racial bonuses not stack with the base bonuses, but they are also not affected by the Barbarian Rage bonuses to damage (the attack bonus from this feat applies as intended, but not the damage bonus).

Here’s an example:

• The Dragonslayer (Peridan) Properties:

Enhancement Bonus: +2
Enhancement Bonus vs. Dragon: +6

• What my character sheet shows:

Damage: 1-8 + 17
+2 Slashing Damage
+6 Slashing Damage vs. Dragon

After applying the Rage feat

Damage: 1-8 + 17
+6 Slashing Damage
+6 Slashing Damage vs. Dragon

• What I actually get vs. Dragon when in rage from the logs:

Testing has shown that the actual damage range when in rage corresponds to the character sheet, which means I deal less damage to dragons with the Dragonslayer (Peridan) than with virtually any other standard weapon.

• What I should probably get when in rage:

Damage: 1-8 + 17
+6 Slashing Damage
+10 Slashing Damage vs. Dragon

This bug also means that all other weapons with race-specific attack bonuses lower than +6 give barbarians less damage against their specified races than almost any +3 weapon, making them non-viable further than outlined.

The base attack bonuses of weapons should stack with the racial bonuses, except for the purpose of piercing DR in some cases, while ensuring that Barbarian Rage is applied to both attack and damage bonuses but only once.

Yeap, all I do is complain.
