Sailing is OP compared to dungeons, please balance it

Post by Peacewhisper »

Either we need to stop letting sailors find masterwork runes, 600k cloaks and coats, and 4 million gold parrot chalices, or we need to put some equivalent loot in dungeons. It doesn't necessarily have to be a parrot chalice or a sailing coat, maybe it could be a rod that gives you the teleport from GSF: Trans, or some kind of artifact that gives you -yoink. Heck even the scry mirrors, if you could feed them spell components to reuse them instead of being single use, would be a great alternative.

Considering the amount of gate keeping, discord shenanigans, and loot hoarding that current sailing crews are doing, I think it may be worth nerfing them anyways, because they certainly aren't spreading the wealth around. Even them being "inclusive" often amounts to "Tom Sawyering" you into doing all their work for them finding map pieces for them to sell or pirate chests for them to open later without giving you a chance to roll for any of the loot. Which imo is really terrible and makes me lose respect for these players since they obviously don't respect 6 hours of my time.

Another idea is to just add a crafting recipe for both the cloak/jacket and the parrot chalice. Make the cloak/jacket require azurite and make the parrot chalice require rainbow agate. Now suddenly sailors aren't making a whole lot more money than the rest of us because they can no longer gatekeep these 3 items.

Are you posting this because you genuinely want change, or because someone didnt invite you to a sail?

Even when invited it feels like I'm doing their work for them for free since I don't get a fair share of the loot. Which is what I meant about them "Tom Sawyering" us and then calling it inclusive. No it's not inclusive to drag me along for six hours, make me watch you dig up 3-4 pirate chests that easily sell for a million each unopened, only to be given the same amount of gold I typically pick up from yellow mobs and chests on a 10 minute dungeon run at the end of it all and never see or hear about the contents of said chests afterwards.

Also, consider this, if I'm not invited to sail on my sailmaxxed character who constantly asks to go sailing, that's not an indictment of me, that's an indictment of the players who go out of their way to gatekeep and exclude others from their gold mine. And even more reason why these changes are needed.

This is a conversation that needs to be had eventually, but it does feel personal to you making you not a great candidate to facilitate it.

I think the above statement is the sort of gate keeping which is the problem. Any player should be allowed to voice their concerns, their reasons, and not be told that the staff who runs this game should only hear problems from certain players. My understanding is OOCly we are all equal.

In the world outside of this internet discussion form people with firsthand experience are the ones who speak out, make change. I'll end with this trite statement. Everything is personal if you are a person.

You demanded this thread be made so I made it. Don't complain now just because I am too honest.

Exactly. People come in this thread shaming, gas lighting, and victim blaming me for pointing out other people's scummy behavior, and somehow I'm the bad guy. It's not like I pointed out which groups specifically were doing this. And I have been lucky enough to be part of some groups that were not like this, which is the only reason I'm wise enough to know I'm not being treated fairly now.

In the example I gave, I was given less than 1 percent of the MINIMUM profits we made on that six hour voyage. Even a single parrot chalice would quadruple that. I'd really like to see someone try to justify players who have been raking in millions for real life months or years even still treating their fellow players like this. How many maxed out faction bank accounts do you really need?

The equivalent would be if I took you to the manor of mourne, made you -guard me the whole time because I had no AC, went afk while you solo'd the boss, then mined all the adamantine, found a perfect chard stone, and paid you 300 gold for your work.

No, that’s not how it works. Overly negative and/or needlessly aggressive posts have no place here.

There is far too much bias and aggression in that OP to result in anything positive. If they want to post feedback then remove all that from it. Otherwise, we’ll just keep locking.

There are several posters that can’t help themselves and no one wants to read that stuff even if they might have a valid point.
