Crafting menus and the dialogue bars

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Crafting menus and the dialogue bars

Post by Waigoogin »

Hope my suggestion meets the acceptable criteria, regardless I think it's best to start the thread here and hope it's all good..

So, as long as I can recall it has been difficult to rp or respond to messages when crafting because any incoming information via other players gets lost in the stream of crafting notes. A blacksmith making numerous tools, or an enchanter enchanting numerous things all see various colours of text (specifically white and green, similar to IG messages and tells). I wonder if there is a way to separate these that the messages either appear elsewhere or show as differently coloured text.

I don't sense the first option is easily done, or perhaps even possible, if it is, that'd be great. if it isn't is it possible to move it, changing the text colour to something that would allow us to scroll through our work and easily spot any incoming messages or rp from other players would be useful. so if all text from crafting was red, to pick a colour randomly, you could easily scroll through to spot the white and green messages sent by players and maintain the roleplay.

I was helping enchant a new characters items yesterday and was reminded of how awkward it is to keep in touch with my surroundings whilst using my craft.

thoughts? am I missing something obvious that makes this less of a hassle?

My personal approach is to actually watch the screen, where people's text appears above their head.

However, I'm also quite fond of crafts needing concentration... I'm deeply unhappy with the way crafting works mechanically in that regard (dump all your points for the day at once, etc) but it's a delicate balance between being able to RP as a master craftsman and having to spend long hours not RPing in isolation somewhere, which isn't any better.

The current approach isn't perfect, by any means, but making it something you can multitask more easily doesn't seem right to me.
