Kudos from the High Priestess of Cyric

Post by andthenthatwasthat »

Enough time has passed since Sarah Sophia Goodluck (aka Sophie) slipped into the Great Chaos, so I think kudos to all the players and characters that made playing her a blast is in order. Most of the characters from her time are gone, so I can probably name names instead of just saying: "you know who you are."

Her story started sometime in year 50 or 60... and I rolled her sometime in the... 90's? Can't even remember any more, so some of these names might be long forgotten.

I can't believe there are so many names I forgot, but I remember the characters and RP so vividly. If you read this please help me remember your character names.

In order of appearance (this might take a while, sorry for misspellings or forgetting the exact names):

Gaelyn (EvilBrage) - the big boss. Sophie's story starts with her first assignment to gather information on Hogdish and Giogi. We did not get much time to RP together, but this connection has gotten Sophie far among many factions on the island she dealt with, and even saved her life a few times. You taught me a few things about shady RP.

Hogdish - the magistrate who got Sophie her first job as the scribe in the Supreme Court, which allowed her to infiltrate the city. A well played half-orc with a balance between his violent roots and the life in the city. Thank you for many boring hours of scribing Cordor trials! :D

Giogi (I know you are still around :D) - her never ending crush. Masceo is an institution on Arelith. I will not say more because everybody knows how he RPs. Sophie's and Giogi's RP lead to Sophie ordering his death and reversing her decision at the last minute so many times. Nobody caused her so much jealousy as Giogi, and she never enjoyed flirting with anybody as much as she did with Giogi. Always a close friend and a confidant. Made Sophie want to be what she could never be - a completely different person. It was his naive nature that prevented him from seeing who she really was. Thank you for years of RP.

Alia Silveroak - Giogi's second or third or fourth wife... I lost count. Amazing RPer - a truly alive character. She came a few years later, but I will mention her here close to Giogi. Thank you for many years of friendship to Sophie she never cared to return. Instead, she sent a few of assassins after her every time she felt jealous of her being Gioig's wife. How fast you used to type! :D Thank you for hours and hours of RP.

Kainda - the second and last person that ever caught Sophie pickpocket her. Kainda played it off and they became "friends". Sophie often used Kainda's zealous nature to get at her enemies. Kainda was an amazing character and the player behind her brought so many people together. I was sad to see you leave the server. :(

Cassie - Paladin of Tyr or was it Time? :D The great Chronomancer. You are the player I learned so much from about RPing emotions and what makes characters transcend pixels and feel like it is standing right next to me. Maybe one day I will be able to match your level of RP. Somebody who was always ready to step in when things got stale and make things interesting for the whole island. Sophie truly loved her and cared for her. She actually felt sad seeing her slip into madness. Another character that solidified Sophie's place in Cordor politics and the first one to name her the Magistrate.

Jillian Swift - street urchin, Cassie's squire, later commander/liuetenant in the guard. Sophie hated her from the moment she saw Jillian with her little feather duster cleaning Cassie's room in the library. You allowed me to hone my "silent hate" RP. :) Sophie felt she got at the little hin during the Ellen K. fiasco when Ellen K. stepped down as the commander and Swift wanted to slip into her role.

Adel - Sophie's closest ally. Sophie admired Adel's cold and calculated desired for power. She is also how Sophie got into the whole RP of advising election candidates and collecting/buying votes. Adel was another character that solidified Sophie's position in the city. She helped Sophie make some of the most important connections on the island. Sophie was ever grateful to her for that, but could never forgive her when she dismissed Sophie's plan to take over the guard barracks, butcher all their enemies during a council meeting, place survivors into jails, and take control over the city. Adel brought out Sophie's darkest side. :) Thank you for endless hours of plotting RP. Here I will thank all that belonged to the same faction as Adel at the time (just in case redacting names and the faction name).

Armen Roth - amazing politics RP. The character taught Sophie so many things about how politics work on the island. We RP'ed only a few times and I wish it was more. This player's style of RP really influenced me and how I ended up RPing Sophie.

Great Kashary Dane! The only "man" Sophie loved. Of course she knew she could not mix emotions and business, but she enjoyed his company immensely. Walking through the fields, looking into the sunsets off cliffs of Arelith, invites to masquerades. She actually kept all his letters in a special notebook. You taught me how elitist evil should be RP'ed. Thank you for amazing RP. I really felt sad when you (the player) decided to leave the server.

Ran and Duriel! :D Where are you people!?!?!?! I can only hope you are still around. Very brief interactions, but FUN! Kudos to both players on some of the most amazing RP out there.

Nyhmax - Sophie interacted with him once or twice, but that RP - that RP was worthy of an evil deity!

Haston (was that his name? helped destroy Benwick) - Oh Sophie really cared for him. He was a collateral damage in the Tau council fiasco, but Sophie since then tried to always help him. I have learned so much about RP from you! We RP'ed only a few times, but it was always amazing. That RP you did in the jail after being arrested (broken legs, dirty, and all that) - still remember it - KUDOS!

Birbag - a great friend of Sophie's that she took great pride in ridiculing. She actually loved the orc as a brother. All the silly statues of him and art pieces she made to make fun of his heritage. There is still at least one statue floating around Cordor now I think. Thank you for years of great RP.

Abyssal faction from early years (not naming any names) - during the early years Sophie seemed to be at odds with them, and although they never directly RP'ed they left a great mark on Sophie. Sophie learned so much about balancing between factions at odds, and helped her in later years have some sway over the politics on the island.

Old man! Another institution. From the early days when Sophie used to smuggle stuff for him into Cordor and keep them in her room in the social for him, to later years when he became the go to man for tough assignments. Oh the "handkerchief box" mission - good times. :) It was always too short to RP with you.

Goodman (the Tumpurian - ugh can't remember the name - player played Anthony Greenhouse afterwards) - Sophie liked the sight of him. Another crush of hers. She loved his abilities and his ambition. Again, I wish they RPed more.

Alora Elanesse - always so zealous - you taught me how to RP conviction. Sophie used her so many times to dispatch her enemies because Alora would act quickly as a guard with limited information. By the end of it Sophie wanted her dead so bad (can't remember why - maybe for sport at that point). I think only her cousin (the player of Rune's previous character) saw through that. Sophie spent years trying to get Alora's amulet to crack. She even planted "love letters" from Giogi's wife to Alora's husband ("the handkerchief mission") hoping that she would in despair break her amulet and kill herself.

Ronald Markum - one of Sophie's main tools in the guard (not sure he knew that). Thank you for all of great scheming RP. Sophie wanted so hard to make him the commander of the guard.

Need to mention Tau - we only RP'ed very briefly, but I have to say sorry for the short rule on the council. He said one wrong thing to Sophie (that he could not put a thumb on her or something) and she had to act right away. That one meeting left a lot of impression on me and I wish we have RP'ed more. Maybe we did on other characters?

Damien (?) (a cleric whose name I cannot fully remember) - a good friend of Sophie's. Sometimes she took too much pleasure in his misfortune, though. Oh that time when he tried to bring a Gnoll into the city. :D Fun times!

Trynn Eldafire - we RP'ed only a few times, but I always had great fun. Your great RP is the reason why your character left a legacy after her death.

Euclio Cartan - Sophie made it a point to put a wrench into any of his plans. Stalked him herself when she couldn't get others to follow him around. Always looking for him to trip up because she though he had some dark secrets. This character taught me a few things about how to RP character weaknesses.

Matsuo - a good business friend of Sophie - loved sitting with him next to fire in her Upper Cordor mansion, chatting about political strategy. I don't think that Matsuo realized who Sophie was to this day.

Rose Talbot, and triaddraykin's characters in general, always resourceful in her RP.

Ellen K. - the RP was great, but too short if you ask me. Sophie wanted Ellen K. on her good side and gave her a lot of support from the background. Once Ellen K. left the post the things got so much more difficult for Sophie.

Olivia Rivers - Sophie's nemesis. Sophie hated her so much I mastered the ways of hate RP. :D She got the best of Sophie in the end, and I thank you for that. Actually, that character was the reason I did not roll Sophie earlier. You gave me a reason to play for another couple of months. Thank you for endless hours of direct and indirect RP.

The lieutenant in Cordor Guard at the time (again cannot remember the name). Loved your RP! In particular how you emoted subtle actions your character would make. I have to apologize for not RPing more after Sophie's arrest despite sending a handful of assassins your way. I just could not get the time and by the end of it I rolled Sophie.

Roland Asen - THAT IS HOW YOU RP EVIL MASTERMINDS! Thank you for brief and always fun interactions. Sophie always admired Roland so much. Too bad about that letter fiasco. They both came after each other hard then, but she always felt it was in good sport (despite him raising his voice at her). If it wasn't for that argument, I feel like they would have ruled the island. :) To this day I think Roland confused her request for help as weakness and not as an offer of alliance. Roland was in so many ways the proxy for the end of Sophie and her hold in Cordor.

Kavx Mennen (:D) - Sophie hated his guts! But felt she needed to keep him happy. He got her good in the end I feel. I hope you ended up seeing the letter she planted when she had to flee the city, trying to implicate him as somebody who assisted her in her escape. :D Well RP'ed character - taught me about how to RP reserved, strong characters.

Later Years Abyssal faction - after the arrest in Cordor, Sophie started helping rebuild the Abyssal faction, carefully staying on the outs. Thank you for that RP. It was the end of road for Sophie's story and I'm sorry I didn't contribute more there. But it was fun and made me realize it is time to move on.

Elzi (Mondero's ex-wife) - Sophie's little sister - or at least she saw her that way. Sophie really wanted to do everything to further Eli's ambition. Too bad our schedules never really worked out to be able to RP more. Great RP of a woman who is thorn between ambition and emotions.

Mondero! The bad boy! :D Sophie saw him as her little brother - she liked that guy. Always trying to pick up his mess and I don't think he even knew that. Throw him a couple hundred thousand to keep his town afloat. :) If you wanted something ridiculous to happen you would RP with Mondero. Sorry you left the server (it seems like), and the way it happened.

Layla Rashmi - great RP and always trying to shake things up not letting RP on the island go too stale. Got a lot of conflicts going and I loved that. For some reason Layla fell off after we retook Guldorand? I miss that shady plotting RP with Mondero and her.

Kodus to Sharans and Sencliff - we RP'ed a lot through proxies, but I always loved what you guys did! Thank you for making Arelith fun.

Hin Jester (:D) - too bad I was about done with Sophie by the time they met. Well played character with a difficult concept to pull off. I hope you put those rubies to good use. :)

Last but not least, kudos to all of Sophie's spades. Sorry there were too many to remember all, but you know who you are. It was fun running a shady faction.

To all who bought Sophie's "tainted" and overpriced jewelry with hidden messages about Cyric - I hope you enjoyed them. :) I put a lot of effort into those descriptions and I can only hope somebody had fun RPing with them.

All other players/characters/factions Sophie RP'ed with, but I did not mention for one reason or another: - THANK YOU.

Made a few edits - so if I remember more I will just add as another message. Also, please help me remember your characters if you RP'ed with Sophie! :)

I already wrote Kodus to the whole guard team that took part in Sophie's arrest back in the day. I did not forget about you guys! :) Like I said back then, you made last few months of playing Sophie worth it.

Just remembered another two characters that I loved RPing with, but Sophie hated them. I just can't remember their names so please help me.

A Cordorian historian/healer - a Magistrate when Sophie came back to the island after a hiatus. He was in the guard later maybe even a councilor at some point, too. Sophie made it a point to put a wrench into any of his movements. Stalked him herself when she couldn't get others to follow him. Always looking for him to trip up because she though he had some dark secrets. This character indirectly showed me how to RP that characters have weaknesses, too.

His wife - enchantress. Sophie always tried to present herself as her friend - even offered her help/gold to start a shop early on, which she refused and got on Sophie's bad side. Sophie later supported causes that worked against her in Warftown. I hope you are still around spreading RP on other characters.

I'm pretty sure the Lawyer/Councillor you're thinking of was Armen Roth (ThePragmaticMan on the old forums).

Yes! Thank you. Fixing it now.

Also, I didn't mention Salasker just because he and Sophie didn't RP much, but she did notice his empire (even while he was on hiatus). By the time she had more strength to go against Dragon Cartel, there were already only a few members left anyways...

With that said, Kudos to you for creating one of the largest/wealthiest factions on the island.

I am happy that he was able to make an impression and add that little bit more fun before they parted ways. I too enjoyed the short amount of interaction, but timezones remain my biggest hurdle to mingling, hah!

Oh yes, there were many many challenges. Things were starting to pick up for him with the momentum getting on with Caster, Kahrne and Co... but well... nothing lasts forever I guess. Now that the assassin's guild is up, I might go take a gander before deciding to roll him or not, lol.

Hope to see your next toon soon! :)

Still around, a little. I honestly don't remember much from that period aside from "inner-circle" events, due to other things happening in my life at the time - but thank you and have a good one.

One of the few remaining reasons Cassie is shelved, and not rolled, was the hope that one day I could tie up the loose ends with Sophie. She was one of my most fond pairings in Arelith, because she perfectly showed Cassandra's earnist and devout intention to _do_ good, but her complete inability to do it right.

She trusted and belived every word out of Sophie's mouth right to the bitter end, and would still die defending her and that trickery cost her dearly. Well played and well loved.

Sophie somehow knew that their last meeting in the Soulhaven (Sophie was disguised) was the last time they will ever speak. Sophie again told Cassie lies, but only because Sophie herself wished her words were true. That was her farewell to Cassie.

The main problem with Sophie was that she made too many loose ends and could not bare to see them tied. That is why it ended up being so difficult to RP her by the end of it and I had to roll her.

No fanfare, no deserving ends. All I know is that she died somewhere, alone, consumed in her mad desire for power. Just as all villains should go.

Awe. Thank you. A fitting end, then, and as the mad Paladin would have wished.

Even if she ended up in Hell, they would probably send her packing to Abyss... Too much scheming even for them. :)

triaddraykin here! That's Rose Talbot you're thinking of, the Ghost Guard of Cordor, and Commander of the Guard prior to most of the Commanders you listed there.
Alia: The uncanny knack of Angela Amana to make the otherwise perpetually well-mannered girl lose her temper and be HORRIBLY ASHAMED afterwards.
