Path of the White Mage
Requirements: Must have the healing domain. Fits the theme of the class and makes it so there is only one domain choice for flavor. You can have Trickery or Travel, but not both.
Gains: Unlimited Spells from a selected list, Scribe Scroll, +4 Wis.
Loses: All weapon proficiencies (except Magic Staff?), All Armor Proficiencies, Shield Proficiency. Cannot take any melee feats, Turn Undead. Is subject to Arcane Spell failure (may be redundant considering they cannot wear armor or use shields). Loses access to Hell ball and Greater Ruin.
Most importantly; Cannot cast Implosion, Fire Storm, Storm of Vengeance, Earthquake, Destruction, Harm, Blade Barrier, Slay Living, Circle of Doom, Flame Strike, Negative Energy Ray, Sound Burst, any of the Inflict X wound spells or any domain spells that deal damage. Essentially anything that could be considered directly lethal to the living, leaving the light based attacks for the undead.
Inspired by the older final fantasy games and their Job system, I noticed that one thing NWN lacks is a purely supportive class, squishy alone but a menace when in a group. Sure, you get Clerics and Bards who are the heart of any party but they're perfectly able to kick butt on their own, hogging the spotlight for themselves. The White Mage isn't going to be slaying armies or soloing RDI or the abyss, but it can potentially keep a group going far longer than any battlecleric.
The ability to cast buffs and keep the party healthy constantly would make the white mage welcome in any party, and due to it's squishyness it would be compelled to find a group (generating RP). The White Mage himself is an Arcanist, and requires spell components to cast his higher spells.
There is one thing I've not fully considered, and that is the casting of Heal and Mass Heal. The fact that a White Mage could indefinitely cast Heal on himself does sound OP, but since he can't actually hit anyone and will be squishy this seems like a non issue. Mass Heal could be abused, but since the White Mage will be burning up spell components each time he casts it it is less likely to happen.
What do you think?
