Doctor....Who?
Gosh, I had the best time with this character. I usually don't do this with my 5%'s. I didn't expect him to go the way that he did because it was way off from where I started but it was such a crazy and great ride.
Special Kudos to:
Roland's Player: Not only did Roland inspire the character and provide some of the most important influences but the player is a sweetheart. He always takes time out of his day to help me dig through lore or deal with whatever magical mystery Ollie is working on today AND he tries to keep things cheery with a constant helping of cuteness (goodness knows this is one of the few characters that I've been at the computer in tears over one beautiful scene or another). Thank you.
The Mentors:
I've never had a character that has relied on long gone characters as much as Ollie and I had the pleasure to learn so much of the island's history over the last six months. Its been lovely.
Daedin: Gosh, this elf was an inspiration the moment Ollie heard about it. Not only does he represent a part of elven culture that I love but he is the mark of a great era in Arelithian elven history that is sorely sorely missed. Thanks to Daedin and all the history he left behind, Ollie had the perfect path to follow.
Ayin Mesmer: An early inspiration for the boy; I was sad I never got to finish all the research for him. Ayin touched generations of Arelithians and he always reminded Ollie that it was important to be the best at your thing, forget everyone else. This was a huge help in his early days when it was a struggle to figure out where he was going.
Dante Lyons: Gosh darnit, I love this character. Without him, Ollie would never have become the Knight that he did. Without all the stories of this beloved madman, he would have stayed that scared little boy forever. Ollie made sure to pass on Dante's teachings to another generation of Knights. <3!
Aristotilus: The perfect role model for sacrifice and getting the job done. I love this character so much. He inspired Ollie to be unafraid to use his skills in whatever way was needed to save lives and it certainly paid off.
Nelehein: This character has left so much behind and was Ollie's main inspiration for how to be a good Knight of the Road. Nel helped me make the concept fun and inclusive and Ollie would never have grown so much without having this legacy to follow. Thank you!
Most Influential:
I cannot recommend teacher/student rp more than I have with Ollie. I fulled embraced it and it has been a blast; whether Ollie was the student or teacher.
Giogi Silveroak: The two started out as tailors and ended as father and son. This story was so utterly beautiful. I loved it. Giogi is the most loving, consistent and understanding character on Arelith. Without all of his support and guidance (even the "If you want to be evil' scene broke my heart), I would have shelved Ollie after the original concept fell apart.
Sonriath: This is such a brilliant character and I was lucky to have run into him. He was the reason I even bothered to visit Myon. To Ollie, he changed everything - team evil surely would have won the boy over if Sonriath hadn't installed all those virtues in him.
Nicodemus: God, I love Uncle Nico. When Sonriath past, he picked up the mantle but he did more than that; he made me love playing an elf. He made parts of elven culture (which I previous found a bit dull) to be awesome and it really shaped Ollie's path. I would never have expected the boy to get so religious. <3!
Siegfriedr Haraldrson: This might be an odd addition to this list since we rarely played together but that one talk on the road to Wharftown with Sieg changed the world :p Ollie would never had tried so hard to find his way or make repeated attempts to be a part of Myon without Sieg's advice.
Scout Merryweather: Scout caught him at the best time and showed him another way. He didn't have to do what was expected; he could be anything. Although the two of them were always at odds in opinions, she gave him a home and it evolved into something wonderful.
The Knights:
Buppi Dirtytoes: Agh! I love this character so much. I have never had more fun in a faction than having to train Squires and I happened to get two of the best on the server. Buppi was wonderful and each new stepping stone that the two made together made the relationship feel real. It was an utter joy to play.
Brendon Aseph: <3 Brendon. He kept Ollie firmly in this world with his love and compassion. Without that talk in the Grove, one cold night, Ollie would never have realized how important his Fellows were to him. All the later bonding and team work was thanks to Brendon - he reminded everyone that they had lives too ^^ and he wasn't afraid to live his.
Shallan Alvere: These two always butted heads but when it came down to the crunch they put everything aside and saved the day. Shallan was his balance; no matter how much he might be right, she had a point too and she helped more than she thought. She will make a good leader : )
Liunia Lilith: If he can call anyone his 'friend', it would have to be Liunia. The pair of golem-elves are always a pleasure to watch and I've never had more in depth scenes. She makes me want to play an elf again.
Larken Dirtytoes: This early influence was paramount to bringing Ollie into the Knights. The player isn't afraid to show weakness and growth in his character which makes him a pleasure to play with ^^
Other:
Edrahil: These two had a roller coaster relationship that I was completely in love with. My favourite type of character is one that sticks to his gonnes and Edra always did just that. He wasn't afraid to come at Ollie while everyone else seemed to treat him like a cult leader a bit (it was odd). They reminded me of estranged siblings.
Maeve Bael'teryn: I've had such a great time with Maeve. She taught him to bond with others (he wouldn't have cared otherwise!). Every scene was a riot when two wildly different personalities clashed. I loved it.
Borin: I have been trying to play with this dwarf for months, gosh darnit. He is a blast and unwavering in his ideals. He makes playing a ranger cool and helped provoked Ollie to take nature's path in his early years. <3!
Damnatis: My favourite dark influence! Although the two of them usually had to meet in super secret, the scenes were wonderful and allowed me to explore the other side of Oliver. I'm sure if anyone could have gotten him to the dark side, it would have been Damnatis.
Funmakers:
There are SO many characters that I played with on Ollie and that I'd say something for but for the sake of brevity I'll just include the names. You're all great.

Re: Doctor....Who?
YOU DIED ON BUPPI. HE'S SO WRAPPED UP IN SADNESS.
I cried, me the player, at this. Oliver falling back and going limp. Buppi calling out to him, trying to stop the death. Currently, he's hunched over Oliver's body while people are scrambling to help.
Oliver was one of if not the best mentor Buppi had. He trained and taught him many important lessons, have him disciplined when needed, and opened up to the little druid hin. They shared their true selves to each other, and were, if somewhat unofficially, brothers. Of all people on the server, Buppi trusted Oliver the most.
I'll add more later, maybe.
Oliver. Buppi, and I, will miss you.

I can safely say Oliver was by far the person Maeve looked up to the most. She's so fond of him. She'll be crushed

Re: Doctor....Who?
Saddest of days - just as I was starting to get to interact with Oliver too. Celendil is still hard at work on the research he requested.
Oliver had a way of cooking up great events and top-notch RP on a constant basis. He's left a unique mark on Arelith and will be missed!

Re: Doctor....Who?
What.
Why.
I was just starting to get more involved with Oliver!
Why are you elves dying out on me?
It's an honour to be mentioned twice in this thread, and please know that what you did with Oliver was very, very special.
He was both a character that blended in with the world and someone who influenced things on a larger scale.
Well done my friend. I hope you got, at least, that butterfly-winged gnome half drow you always wanted.

Me too!Daedin wrote: ..mentioned twice in this thread..
In seriousness, Oliver was always one of those characters I saw and heard of and went "Man, I've gotta interact with that guy sometime. He seems interesting."
Sadly, I never got the opportunity, short of a few brief meetings and a nicely done wrapup with Andelos. He was cool as heck, definitely. I'm sorry to see him go for more reasons than one.

W-what?
You can not die. You can not kill Oliver just yet!
He was one of those characters that I always saw from afar and I was like "YEH, one day I am going to grab this guy from the coat when he's not looking, I am going to sit him down in a bar and chew his ears for six hours in a row".
Jeez I need to start pouncing people without dawdling.

Re: Doctor....Who?
Godspeed Oliver, you magnificent superdork. He was that rarest of things, a character that was so much more than he appeared. Our interactions were brief, but what was there were tremendous fun, and Oliver's influence'll be echoing down Nikki's life for a long while yet.
Thank you for bringing so many great stories to the table, and I look forward to seeing you in your next guise!

Re: Doctor....Who?
It was a wonderful time with Oliver, from beginning to end. The character was skillfully placed on the line between good and evil aligned characters, and was a champion to further everyone's roleplay along. That is a very difficult task to do, but you managed it with Oliver.Scarcely could you walk a step down any road without knowing that Oliver was involved in some way. He managed to find a good, just path and stick to it with the Knights until his end....
And he had a staggering impact on Shallan, starting from when they were both rather helpless in their own little ways, and ending with two people who still have their faults and weaknesses, but have reconciled themselves to it and pushed forward regardless of the cost. Take care, and I look forward to what you bring to play next.

I still remember when Oliver was but a wee laddie giving advice to thatevilwomanwhobetrayedallherfriendsliketheevilwitchshewas some years back! Nikolaus couldn't understand the word he was saying! (By that I mean I couldn't understand what Ollie was saying because English isn't my mother's tongue.)
I have huge respect for both Oliver and you as a player. Every time we roleplayed you'd send me a tell to thank me for the experience, you're one of the kindest and nicest players around here, and playing with you is enjoyable on so many levels. Thanks for the ride, I hope to see more. :^)

"Do not expire."... Oh physician, heal thyself.
You crafted something very special with Oliver. I absolutely loved the way Ollie and Edra related to one another. It was just the perfect meeting of imperfect minds - Ed was challaneged and pushed in ways I hadn't imagined he would be.
Thank you. Genuinely.

Alright, who killed Ollie? The character was gonna be Encyclopedia Arelithica 3rd Edition as a character!

Re: Doctor....Who?
During one of their first meetings, someone asked Oliver if he was Giogi's new friend. He said, "No. I am his apprentice." At the end, one of the last things he said to Giogi was "Thank you... Father."
It was an absolute joy to be a part of this story. Oli was an amazing character that always kept Giogi from relaxing, whether it was with planning elven festivals (yes, he got Giogi to plan~ elven events - a true testament to his powers!) or simply worrying about his boy out in a world he only knew through studying books.
There was so much depth to this character it continually blew my mind when another layer was revealed. From his inner conflicts to his "learning" humour, it was always a treat to get to discover the next surprise.

Re: Doctor....Who?
*going to go narrative here for a minute...and with some artist license this I how I saw this scene upfolding...much apologies for basic sentences structure/grammar...but I'm in a rush!*
Oliver looked over towards Nicodemus, his attention drawn from the offerings they had both laid down at the feet of serene Statue of Fenmarel in the Myon gardens.
Oliver spread his arms out in a stiff, rigid fashion, "Permission to engage in physcial contact?"
Nicodemus brandished his best lopsided grin, to mask his expression. Nicodemus' inner hackles were rising. He wordlessly pulled the lad into huge bear hug secretly fearing the worst.
Now, Nicodemus thought, let's see how bad this is...
"OH! I almost forgot," which of course, Nicodemus had not, but had to feign for the sake of the ruse.
"I have something for you...I know hand to hand combat is not your thing, but this is 'Ivy Thorn'," he summoned from one of his myriad of pouches, a green glowing dagger. "It's an old artifact from high elven magics of Myon...akin to the Mythal I'm told...it should help you hide, and if'n pressed it has some poisonous effects...I have been it's caretaker for more'n a few years, and it's yours on one condition...that after you're done with it, you find another caretaker from Myon. It should stay with our people."
'Survive...Hide lad if'n can, fight if'n you must,' Nicodemus thought as he carefully veiled the thoughts in his previous words
Oliver waves his offer away in a manner that Nicodemus could liken to...Oliver panic? Boy is hard to read...
"Oh, no...I could not." The slight raise in inflection, settles back into his normal monotone, "There are several factions that are after me. If I were to fall this would end up in the wrong hands." He carefully, almost reverently handed the sheathed artifact weapon back to Nicodemus.
'This is bad!' Nicodemus thought. Panic shot through Nicodemus, his right ear burned with a fierce itch! If he reached up to scratch, he'd tip the boy off that he suspected...Oliver could always read him, better than he could read the youth.
Flashing another masking grin, Nicodemus shifted his stance. He busied his hands away from his ear into unbuckling a scabbard for a well worn short sword never far from his side.
"This is Breath of the Maiden...it's one of my favored tools...it has an enchanted poison to sap and weaken the body of the target. It's not common, but not unique...I've even had an essence of fire fused to it. Hopefully you won't have to use it..."
Nicodemus barely masked his own heart breaking, as he watched Oliver competently buckle and strap the short sword on his person. This very skilled archer...when had that happened?...this pup in his pack...no...this young wolf in his pack, had fixed this weapon within a quick draw length at his side. Nicodemus knew, but hoped he was wrong that Oliver was preparing for his last fight.
After all, wolves win every fight, except for their last...
I've been at this a while, and while I realize the player's still around (That means send me Tells PMC! If nothing else a Hello!) there are times when the synergy of the new character doesn't quite match what was before...and like eating a whole cake, I want more, but realize the slices will eventually run out.
Well good show PMC! I have thoroughly enjoyed this cake!

Re: Doctor....Who?
Oliver spoke to Ravarora only once, and listened to her short grumbling. I doubt he even rememebered her

Re: Doctor....Who?
Oh noooooo!
I'm really gonna miss Oliver. His staunchly insistent rationality combined with a great emotional depth that really played off well against Sieg's behavior - they never actually interacted on that many occasions, but it was very enjoyable every time.

LOL, 20 names with a bit of explanation behind them, 97 names listed after that and the first thing you say is "I know I'm missing some people...........that made me laugh
Oli, wish I would have had more time to get involved with you and a pity I kept putting off something I wanted to get with him about, my loss. Kudos to you for being such a capable role player and bringing so many other players in the light with your story.
*two thumbs up*

Re: Doctor....Who?
I echo Wordless Truth: "Still upset".
Now with that being said, Oliver was awesome! I am disappointed he and Brendon did not have more time together, because each encounter was a delight and in game, he was very much a solid rock for Brendon which he did not realize he needed until it was there. Oliver was logical, thoughtful, insightful, and he always had a purpose and kept focus.
For me personally, I was quite excited when Oliver took Brendon under his wing as a squire! The romantic who uses senses, instinct, and emotion to guide him often as not and the pragmatist who was all math and rational reasoning together was amazing. And surprisingly they mixed quite well. Loved it all and wish there was more!
Sadly though, I am now scratching Emotional Overload off my Christmas card list due to killing off Oliver. Even if the player is brilliant in every way, yeah...see my first line to this post

The only elf marya could have loved.
My lingering angst over not being able to play at all at the moment is a bit less knowing Ollie isn't about.
Had lots of fun on both sinriath and marya with that silky lad
