[Balance Feedback] Pure Rogue

Post by White_935 »

Greetings!
I'm greatly humbled by all the response, and feedback, which even resulted in the current situation being somewhat addressed :)
I've been discussing with a friend of mine both often puzzled, but also greatly enjoying all of the changes made to the classes on arelith.

However one topic comes up to the fact that most classes, is in some way or other buffed, thus becoming stronger, yet a class which never has really been able to shine as a pure class has none, more or less directing it to take prestige classes, or multiclass (which is more or less without penalties due to the ability to skill dump in nwn 1).

Rogues currently do have the nice ability to hit hard, but with their low AB, generally hitting the opponent might not be as easy, and Shadowdance/assassins have their own methods to deal with this challenge.
The question lies then, what benefit, roleplay side (not every rogue needs to a master of shadows, or a murderous assassin) does a pure rogue/scoundrel possess?

Pick lock, set trap, and otherwise can be negated through the skill dumps, and Shadow dancer becomes far better in the hide/ms area than rogues, with the addition of HIPS.

I hope we could discuss potential solutions or alternatives of how buffing a pure rogue would be a viable suggestion, which we in return can post on the suggestion forum once we've given it some discussion.

I would hope everyone could post their opinions, and suggestions, i'll throw in a few myself to get the discussion starting.

Note these suggestions are alternatives, and not intended for combination,
---
Suggested buff alt #1
Minor dex, ac, and/or skills which scales with the epic levels.

Suggested buff alt #2
At level 28 rogue, rogues may craft epic traps and/or craft unique traps combined with scrolls which allows for the creation of traps that trigger spell scrolls (summon, fireball, dispel etc).

Suggested buff alt #3
Unique gear which can only used by pure rogues (Shadow Dancers, assassins etc gets better craftable gear at this point).
----

Hopefully we can come up with some good alternatives and feedback to present to the developers when they have the available time :)

Rogue buff threads are a perennial topic. If you're interested, the last one was a few months ago and can be found here.

Rogue is in a poor position from a pure class point of view. The fact the server relies on having many rogue skills to go through dungeons and get loot is odd seeing the server seems to encourage going shadow dancer or assassin because they are getting way more tools and better gear. Not to mention some straight up extra skills and abilities.

Its not rogue is a weak class its the fact that all other average classes have been buffed and prestige classes get better gear.

To be fair, most classes (with the exceptions of druid and warlock) are in a poor position from a pure class POV.

Pure barbarian gains rather good buffs (was recently nerfed).
Fighter gains rather decent buffs.
Pure wizards/sorc is greatly buffed from the improved spells, spell focus etc.
Pure paladins gains buffs, including a hard wisdom bonus.
Druids gained totemic animals path, spell bonuses, and improved elemental shapes.
Bards seems slightly in the same boat, however some of their spells gotten a major buff.
Pure monk is, by default incredible strong, and with a minor equipment improvement here.

While it is true that pure classes tends to fall short of prestige classes, rogue still gets the shortest end of the stick currently.

Thanks for the feedback. There is an overhaul of the Rogue class currently in development. The issues this class face are certainly on the radar.

What?
Wizard/Sorcerer/Cleric/Druid/ have NEVER needed to multiclass to be strong in PVE solo or otherwise.

Nice to hear :)
I just want to actually be considered a useful party member, rather than a liability, as a level warrior with 3-4 rogue levels can both disarm traps and do the locks as good as my rogue atm...will be looking forward to see the overhaul :)
