misclick = no more arelith for the day
i'm never going to not hate these respawn penalties, but that's the only feedback i have. i don't have any suggestion to make them better, but misclicking and immediately dying (and therefore having literal hours of being effectively locked out of my character) sucks.
wish i had something more constructive to say, you guys are great
(inb4 literally any "suggestion": i'm a casual player. i have no friends on the server to hang out with while i wait. i have one character i play. i'm not interested in looping the cordor sewers/kobolds/brambles for the umpteen millionth time on a new character. i'm cool with hopping onto a different game. i'm just putting my feedback in the feedback section of the forums because the current iteration of respawn mechanics aren't the only way it can ever be done).
i miss the heavy XP penalties. losing progress sucked, but at least we could still play if we wanted to

It has to be something, and it's WAY less of a penalty than it used to be. The old penalty was up to 100xp/lvl at epics, meaning you'd potentially be losing days or weeks of gains, because XP was so much harder to get back then.Halibutthead wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 3:54 pmdoes... does that sound reasonable to you? for a game? for fun? serious questions.
The current penalty is pretty modest, and it doesn't stop you in any way from interacting or moving around. It just stops you from running back out to grind. On top of that, you can still go out and party up with your friends, and have them do the work for you to continue getting XP. It's really not that bad.
And if there was no penalty at all, the game would become far less fun, in other ways.
What was this misclick that caused so much trouble?

sneaking by gulderand. wyvern spawned and came down just as i was issuing a move order. broke stealth immediately, watched the wyvern hump the ground until i died. The Rambling Midget wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 4:33 pm

i agree that there's "gotta be something," and that without penalties we would lose every bit of the weight of death. hell, as irritated as i am about what happened, my problem isn't that i died, it's that i only had a bit of time to play in the morning and... well, there it goes. i just really loath the current system which is the opposite of fun (like i said: figuratively locks me out of my character, since i can't do anything).
as for "days or weeks of gains" i'm not sure i agree. i can grind up 2-3k of xp in a few (maybe 3-5, tops?) hours. arelith isn't what it used to be, after all, which is why i don't think the old hefty xp loss would be as effective anymore. it's just too easy to progress

That's a rough one. I recommend using directional keys as much as possible for movement in potentially hostile areas.Halibutthead wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:00 pmsneaking by gulderand. wyvern spawned and came down just as i was issuing a move order. broke stealth immediately, watched the wyvern hump the ground until i died.
This was in a time before writs and adventure XP. It used to take several times as long to get to 30, without a dedicated grind squad.Halibutthead wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:00 pmas for "days or weeks of gains" i'm not sure i agree. i can grind up 2-3k of xp in a few (maybe 3-5, tops?) hours. arelith isn't what it used to be, after all, which is why i don't think the old hefty xp loss would be as effective anymore. it's just too easy to progress

Would rather take the stat hit and RP somewhere than lose a day or three's progress like the old system.

Re: misclick = no more arelith for the day
yeah, i remember. i've been on and off arelith since shortly after launch.
i wish i could take your advice, because frankly, it works for most people. unfortunately, i don't play a lot of arelith anymore. i love the server and i adore the world, but i don't role play much (i do stay in character and sometimes talk to people in town, but no one wants to invest in a friendship with someone they won't see again for weeks, after all. i understand that).
i just don't think it's in a good spot for everyone.

Agreed. It was so discouraging to lose hours upon hours of progress just from a stupid death. I'd rather take resurrection sickness any day.Harkath wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:06 pm Would rather take the stat hit and RP somewhere than lose a day or three's progress like the old system.

Re: misclick = no more arelith for the day
but, from a gameplay perspective, isn't it better to be able to play?
i really don't get the dichotomy here. a few hours worth of xp loss vs a few hours worth of stat drain that prevents you from being able to get xp.
i lost oh, i don't know, maybe 1500xp after death + respawn. last night (when i started my arelith binge) i played for a few hours and got that much just walking around in town looking for anyone to hang out with, then giving up and doing half of a dungeon by myself. even if the xp loss was doubled, i probably would have come out ahead if i could have respawned and played some more

The stat thing hits some people more than the other, A druid or palemaster (Hey that is me) Just shrug it off and are fine to continue to hunt.
While to others are far more effected. And then two hours can be a real pain.

Sure. Just go have a talk with a few people. I'm happy to wait out a couple of hours.
Worth noting, that's two hours at max level, when the penalty is at its longest. By lvl 30 you really shouldn't be dying particularly often, if at all.
Re: misclick = no more arelith for the day
If you simply MUST go out and dungeon (for resources, I assume) hire some help, or play an alt.
Softening the blow of the death exp losses was a good change, as it took much of the OOC sting of being killbashed away. People could, and did, intentionally killbash people to delevel them back in the day pre-change. The system was quite weaponized, because if, every 24 hours, you could set someone back three days, you could easily screw with a player back then.
