Re: Memory Lane
So they took turns KDing his hairy butt, beating him down, healing him, then tagging the other person to do so.
A humbling experience for a dwarf.

Your best known character is literally a non monster race (horc) living in the Underdark.hmm wrote: Sun May 03, 2020 7:29 am When Andunor was Monster-only. Humans were afraid & fearful of the Underdark.

Re: Memory Lane
When Ayin Mesmer, Eric Silverarms and others (sorry, I can't recall all of them, I think Jacob Swift was there?) went for a retaliation assault on the iron citadel. To this day that is probably the most fruitful instance of PVP I can remember...
When Lillia Aylows and Nelyata defended Wharftown, with Lillia casting a hellball on Nelyata while Nel ran into a group of enemies. That was nuts.
Iocastos getting flesh to stone-d in the UD.
Skeflock casually teaching Anarion about power consolidation and stuff.
I also remember the events to "Verankht does not want milk". That was grade A hilarious.
And consequentially, the server being at 99/96 players.AstralUniverse wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 9:23 pm When you had to spam Direct Connect to enter a full server.

Watching Aristotlus and Rune navigate the hostile room, Aristotlus becoming more and more worn down from the ordeal, the foiled assassination attempt by a Zhentarim agent in the courthouse etc. Simply an epic scene that caused server side ripples for weeks (months) to come until Ulrich was finally taken down and Revinco fled.

I don't know if I actually accomplished anything, but I sure had a lot of fun doing it.
Oh, man, yeah. What a joy it was to sit there spamming connect and hoping that I could squeeze in during the tiny fraction of a second when the player count dropped to 59.

that abyss fight with the tower/benwick/etc vs the abyss was colossal. enserric's hellball did not go according to plan
vippin and uat re-enacting jafar/iago while we used ohm to ground some evil lightning machine, and the surfacers coming to rescue him at the darkfalls
rescuing feste (again) from skeflock
watching the shallow woods portal (at the time a 2-way) at night to protect against UD raids- and one showing up all "you're on your own, prepare to die". this drow casts true seeing and sees 10+ epic surfacer stealthers surrounding them.
summoning belduil into tower captivity
winning a cordor council election by accident without intending to run again
the nomad being effectively a city-state all its own under dear leader janelle valgon (and the associated manharem)
sandrhir's dope infernal rituals
this one's more recent, but the second dominion holding a festival in wharftown that had pagan human sacrifices to ensure the harvest came, and two guys fighting literally to permadeath because they besmirched the table of food dedicated to the gods. oh, and burning an effigy of administrator provine as a middle finger to cordor
effelin's effigy of trynn'delynn burning on her doorstep
a cordor guard commander blackguard being called a "a badly roleplayed paladin" in gschat
ayin having a personal throne at the nomad that was dragged out whenever he visited

Re: Memory Lane
I find it funny to see the layers of memories this "community/server" has. It's generational almost.
A guy comes in and go "I'm back after so long! Last time i played was like, 3 years ago!", conjuring up names that feel old to him. Which I would still reference as the "Artos era".
Then I would be like "dude, i'm a true veteran, been on and off for what seems like 10-15 years!", and I'm all "yo, Sarog Pethanos ya'all, knew that guy? He was dope, back then the temple of mask wasn't maskite at all!". Which I would reference as the "Mithreas era".
Eventually someone will walk in and go "lel, was there when there was only one server and drows-halfey-halfdragon and whatnot were all chilling together in Cordor!". Which I would reference as the "JJerm era".
And there's probably another era before that, the bigbang/birth of the server. Like Gigashatten, only ever saw that name associated to an "engine", but he was some kind of code-lord on arelith back in the days or something?
I like that, puts things in perspective, gives huge depth to the in game history and meta-history of the server, and keeps things fresh.
Rambling over. I support this thread!

Re: Memory Lane
Gigaschatten was the first developer and built the early Arelith chassis which was extended by Mithreas and other developers. It could easily have been renamed Mithreas Engine, at some point. Gigaschatten played Akyss Sha'ar back then, mostly, he actually returned for a brief stint a few years back, before the last major forum wipe.Rico_scorpion wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 4:07 pm

Re: Memory Lane
My faverite 'old' memory is of Maliel and the Great Painting Caper, which made him rather rich and which amuses me to this very day.
Rosiere De le Croix and Herial Ghalen both wanted a picture from Maliel, and came to him independently about it.
These two characters were bitter rivals/enemeis.
So Maliel made two paintings. One was of glorious Rosiere, standing victorious over the crumpled body of Herial! - this was sold to Rosiere.
The other was of the Glorious Herial! Standing victorious over the crumpled body of Rosiere! - This was sold to Herial.
Neither knew about the existance of the other painting for quite a while, and Maliel laughed all the way to the bank.
Re: Memory Lane
Well the first iteration of Arelith, the original chassis so to speak, was built before Gigaschatten. Jjerm, Artos and ... Jpavelsomething something. Giga first came around after the Arelith/Amia split.Dalek Caan wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 7:26 pmGigaschatten was the first developer and built the early Arelith chassis which was extended by Mithreas and other developers. Re: Memory Lane
Yup. I believe it was for optimal cooling. Especially when DMs pushed it too much in events, or too many mages casting, the server would heat up, and eventually "freeze" (!) and crashBorin Drakkmurl wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 10:17 pm I am pretty sure at some point, and for a good while, the server was actually, physically, in jjjerm's bathroom?
