Cricket Caves

Post by Flower Power »

This topic comes up at least once a year, but the Cricket Caves and the areas surrounding it (the hidden glade and twin falls gap) are all really pretty and cozy and aesthetically pleasing.

But then you go inside of the quarters and you go oh god why.

These quarters would be amazing for nature oriented PCs/neutral PCs/hermits, but they're, uhh. Very oddly decorated. With lots of permanent bloodstains, corpses, spiked heads, skeletons and piles of bones and skulls. It's a complete 180 from the theme and aesthetics of the rest of the area and it's honestly kind of sad (especially now that we have spiked heads/impaled corpse fixtures, so you don't need permanent fixtures to be as cringe as you want to be.)

Is there any chance of these poor, poor little nooks getting a good scrubbing at any time?

I always seen em as a sort of, a place for outcasts to have a home?
Atleast its secluded and hidden, perfect for outcats to be around. And then the theme fits?

I do agree on the "no need for permanent fixtures"

I guess because of the theme, i always seen it as an outcast living place :)

Dormant Character: Tabitha Fuzzypaw - Shelved, searching all corners for treasures and secrets.
Misty Scrollsinger - Still searching answers, but is now elsewhere

Rolled Character: Björn Njald - sailed on new adventures

I've been around long enough to remember that Arelith Forest rework, and as a player? It was first class. We went from a simple grid to an area one could truly explore and get lost in.

Sure, in retrospect some areas can look worse, given all the new toys we have, but frankly; kudos to whoever that mysterious stranger was.

(Expect all their hard work to torn down at some point in 2022.)

Those quarters has not been touched since the fall of Benwick, I owned one of those quarters in that time and they were already the creepy spooky caves they are still now.

Maybe they need a little lil' of love from our awesome developers?

It's not even that they look worse - the exterior of the Cricket Caves and the surrounding areas have a very charming aesthetic, it's just that the interior of the quarters takes a 180-degree turn. It goes from being this handsome woodsy area complete with a powerful nature-spirit in it, to suddenly looking like a nest of serial killers, necromancers, vampires or monsters.

The quarters would be fine (perfect, even) if they were just brought into the aesthetic of the rest of the area by having all the piles of skulls, hanging corpses, spiked corpses, spiked heads, perma-bloodstains, coffins, etc. cleaned up to make them a much more neutral-feeling locale - especially since we've got almost all of those options as fixtures now, if anyone really wants a serial murderer cave.

Even the oldschool 60-fixture count split across 4 quarters is fine, because they're small and snug and cozy - if you can ignore the fact it looks like some kind of cult lives in most of them.

I like the areas thematically and have owned them on several characters over the years. I concur with those who see them as quarters for outcasts or less savory nature-types. Heartwood has the lock on proper nature nooks, or even some of the Shyre and Bendir. This is one of the few places you can go if you don't fit the mold.

Playing a nature-themed character who bought a Cricket Cave quarter just the other day, I won't deny it was a bit of a letdown seeing the broken furniture and the randomly scattered corpses. The more grisly decorations can be easily hidden with fixtures, but unfortunately the 60 fixture slots shared between four quarters means I have little wiggle room, not to mention how presently most of those are already occupied, I can't do much with just 5 free fixture slots myself (this is not criticism to the other owners, I can't blame anyone for trying to make the little caves cozier!). An update to the area would be greatly welcomed, but just a simple increase to the fixture limits would help immensely already, at least.
