Hey, sorry! I've not been able to get the ball rolling internally as I've been extremely busy with some IRL shenanigans, I'll try to get the ball rolling on this again soon!

IRL first, always. But I also miss quackers.

Re: I miss quackers!
Same. I think it made the quality of rp much higher, and allowed us to see when someone was either just standing, or actually typing something. Those that didn't like it just turned it off, and were able to continue as if nothing changed. I didn't see anyone getting upset at anyone for not having them on, and I think the high majority of the playerbase seemed to enjoy it.
But IRL always comes first. I'm just happy to hear it's not just completely gone, and might come back. Keep doing good work.

I also miss it. It made me able to write longer paragraphs without the anxiety that the other person would think I was afk or just leaving.

Pacing was so much smoother for me (since I like to type too fast/too much), and it brought me closer to people conversationally. I miss quackers too.

Same here. I really hope they will be opt-in only and not forced on us, when they do inevitably return.

The way they were implemented (which may have been, relatively speaking, the best or even only way to implement them, so I aint judging the hard work and thought put into it) they simply felt like they do more harm than good for many players. My observation from the game itself as well as people's opinions on the forum is that when they did like them, it was because the gave them some sort of order or structure into the flow of the RP, be it because they are really fast typers and/or because they lack the patience to be in the unknown in regards to whether or not someone is afk. Where as for the people who didnt like them, including myself, the main reasons for that, that I noticed, are (among others) that it trains the playerbase to assume by default that someone is afk if there are no quackers above their head when it's "their turn" because someone talked to them or they passed by someone. Another issue some players had is that they constantly type something before they decided whether or not to post it, only deciding once they're done (or somewhere mid-way) if it's still relevant or not. And personally, I also dont like putting order and structure into the RP. I dont need anyone's patience and I'm not asking for it to be "my turn" to type. I like Arelith for how organic it feels, and this just aint it.
I think the good sides about quackers are immensely in the huge shadow of the bad sides about quackers - most importantly - that it's just not possible to REALLY opt out. And I rather not see it at all, than having it forced.

Completely agreed in this. I will not use them; I don't like that scrutiny. And the way I type, using filler phrases like "she takes a moment to consider" or "he takes a deep breath before beginning" as well as using many short phrases rather than entire paragraphs, is to keep the flow of conversation moving and allow for interruption.
I have also had many great interactions because even if someone was afk briefly, I just waited for them to return rather than walking off.
So yeah, I hope they don't return, but if they do, I really hope instead people don't take this as an opportunity to go "well if I don't see the funny little dots, I won't bother".

Hoodoo!! Any chance of these coming back as an opt-in/opt-out? I would really benefit from them, as I know many others would!

I hate them. Honestly, every time this comes up and the responses that people get for not wanting to use these pushes me more into the corner of never using them. I think the only reason I'd turn them on is to see the little poo emoji quacker replacement override.
RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

Re: I miss quackers!
There is no need for them. If quackers changed the way you roleplayed, then it's an argument against them. Just remain in character, stopping because someone has quackers above their head when your character would have normally just passed by is a form of metagaming.
Type at your own pace and relax. If you miss someone walking past, it's their loss. If you waste a few minutes of your time talking to someone who's afk, just move on. It's really just as simple as that.

Re: I miss quackers!
Assassin players, in particular, will appreciate knowing when their mark is busy typing a response. Yes, add them back.
Re: I miss quackers!
Glad they're not there.
I like not feeling self-conscious about backspacing stuff.
I don't like typing indicators elsewhere either.
I don't feel I'm missing anything. When people are in the flow of roleplay, a rhythm is established very quickly without the need for typing indicators.
If they do come back I will opt out entirely.

Absolutely -hate- them, stopped playing when they were implimented.
I -hate- the mindset that comes with them, that even if optional you had to use them.
I -hate- the playstyle of speaking turns that it facilitated.
I -hate- the anxiety it brings of people knowing you're typing and judging you on length of time to content ratio, even if people don't the anxiety is telling you that they are.
I -hate- the immersion breaking dots so much.
I came to Arelith as a person who had to rewrite highschool coursework due to how bad I was at reading and writing just to get a pass, well over 10 years ago now.
From playing here I learned to spell better, describe better and how to manage my RP into pieces that gave people a chance to interrupt and respond, rather than typing out huge paragraphs and have people wait for ages for a wall of text that gives no room to RP with, just be talked at.
I miss a time where if there was issues with your writing then your solution is to change and improve it, even if that change was a slow process.
