Improving MoD

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Improving MoD

Post by MissEvelyn »

Mark of Destiny is not very viable right now. With the death exp penalty being so low and the rise of the amazing Adventure Experience (thank you Irongron and Scholar), MoD has lost its viability. To potentially sacrifice your character for a few extra experience points hardly seems worth it.
Therefore, I propose a few changes to the Mark of Destiny, in order to make it an attractive choice again.

The description itself says "live fast, die young". Right now, they surely die young. But live fast? Not quite. Those who live fast and die young should surely live and learn fast.

These are my following suggestions:

1. Remove all experience penalties upon death from characters with MoD. They are already being greatly punished by losing 1 out of their 10 lives.
2. Increase experience yield upon every tick to something like 3 times your RPR.
3. All MoD characters get a reduced ECL.
4. Restore all crafting points every 12 IG hours to those with MoD, instead of the default 24 IG hours. With this MoD characters would literally live a little faster.

As I said above, right now you can't tell the difference between who's "living" fast and who's not. But with these changes in place, I believe MoD would become an attractive choice again. Perma-death would still be a factor for those who choose it - and those who don't wish it upon their character can simply refrain from choosing MoD.

Mark of Despair should, obviously, remain unchanged.
